With the recently-introduced Dance Duel tabled for the rest of the season, two duos were sent home based on the judges’ points and viewers’ votes. Roshon Fegan & Chelsie Hightower and Melissa Gilbert & Maksim Chmerkovskiy were the pairs surprisingly eliminated.
To top it off, it was Gilbert’s birthday! the 20-year-old didn’t shed a tear when his time came. Instead he clung to partner Chelsie Hightower and simply said, “I’m definitely happy that I can add ballroom dancing to my dance moves.”In the end it came down to two celebs with very different dance floor reputations: this season’s reigning Dancing queen Katherine Jenkins and this season’s struggling star (at least as far as the judges have been concerned), Melissa Gilbert. | May 8, 2012 at 11:52 PM EDTThe Voice Crowns Jermaine Paul As Season 2 Winner! The Voice has crowned its Season 2 winner: Jermaine Paul, representing Team Blake. Team Cee Lo’s Juliet Simms came in second; Team Adam’s Tony Lucca came in third; and Team Christina’s Chris Mann came in fourth. Other than the results, there were appearances by Lady Antebellum, Justin Bieber, Flo Rida, and Hall & Oats.
Season 2 winner Jermaine — a former back-up singer for Alicia Keys — was the last man standing in Tuesday’s Season 2 finale on NBC, which boasted celebrity performances, plus more songs from the four finalists and other favorite former contestants. After hearing The Voice host Carson Daly announced his name, Jermaine broke down before thanking those important to him and hugged his family members, friends, fellow contestants and the other judges, before taking the stage one last time for an emotional encore performance of R. By normal standards, Maria Menounos and Derek Hough had another standout performance on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars. While judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli raved about the pair’s Viennese Waltz, Len Goodman wasn’t impressed.
“You disappointed me,” Goodman told Menunous and Hough. A shocked Inaba and Tonioli went on to give the couple 10s, and were further dismayed when Goodman issued an 8. Menounos and Hough were shown struggling in rehearsals, but on the ballroom floor the two once again wowed as they performed the dramatic dance wearing shades of grey costumes. The Voice coaches Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera took off the gloves after the Maroon 5 frontman’s contestant Tony Lucca performed the Jay-Z song 99 problems during the show’s finale. Lucca left out the word “b***h” in the song’s lyric, “I’ve got 99 problems but a b***h ain’t one.”
While fellow coaches Blake Shelton said Lucca’s version minus the word was “really cool,” and Cee Lo Green noted that he “liked it,” Aguilera acknowledged the singer “sounded great,” but felt it was “a little derogatory towards women.” Levine then jumped in and defended the song’s choice. Meanwhile, Christina Aguilera commended her on singing while sick. “You were amazing,” Christina declared. And Cee Lo declared, “With Juliet Simms on my team” — pointing to his shirt — “I have no problems.” Juliet worked very hard to keep her voice on key and smooth though she was ill.
