Top Chef Masters - Season 5

Last week on Top Chef Masters Season 5, the chefs were put to the test with Restaurant Wars! This always seems to be an episode they split up on Top Chef, but they crammed it into one episode and it was very fast-paced! With the Battle of the Sous Chefs going on, the winning sous chefs were able to work with their chefs for two hours of prep time. While it seemed like a huge advantage, Jennifer, Neal, Lynn and Bryan wasted it as they turned out to be the losing team! Lynn was sent home.

Tonight it started out with romance, as Mindy Kaling comes in for the Quickfire Challenge and the chefs are put to the test of creating dishes based on her favorite romantic comedy movies. Then the Elimination Challenge begins and Yo Gabba Gabba comes on Top Chef Masters 2013 to help the chefs create meals from their least favorite ingredients! This should be fun to watch, so follow along with our Live Recap below!

WARNING: TOP CHEF MASTERS 2013 SPOILERS AHEAD!

Don’t want to know what happened tonight on Top Chef Masters 2013 Live Recap or find out who was eliminated on Top Chef Masters Season 5 tonight? Then don’t read ahead!

*********************************************************************

We start with the Quickfire Challenge and Mindy Kaling is present, who will be the guest judge tonight. They will create a dish inspired by some of Mindy’s favorite romantic comedies. The chefs pick their movies and Sang is worried because this is not his movie genre.

The chefs get started on their dishes and Sang got Sleepless in Seattle and he remembers Meg Ryan being picky about food selection, so he is going to make a pie with the a la mode on the side. Sue is working with liquid nitrogen for the first time and she doesn’t take the top of the container! It takes her a minute to figure it out.

The time runs out and time for judging: For David, she loves that he is sweating and that means he put effort into it and to her effort is sexy. They seemed to enjoy Neal’s dish. It seems that it is a lot of jokes and not a whole lot of critiques. I am not complaining because I think Mindy is hilarious!

Least Favorite Dishes: Sang (she wanted apple pie) and Jennifer (didn’t live up to the other dishes). Neal (sexy dish), Doug (loved the dish) and Sue (fun dish and made sense to the movie). The winner of the Quickfire Challenge on Top Chef Masters 2013 is Doug and he gets $5,000 for his charity!

Time to find out the results on the Battle of the Sous Chefs, which had them creating a dish for the onion. David’s sous chef won and he has immunity. Sue, Neal and Jennifer had the least favorite dishes for their sous chefs on Top Chef Masters Season 5!

Now we find out about the Elimination Challenge and here comes Yo Gabba Gabba. They have to create a dish that is nutritious and delicious for both kids and adults. The winner will get $10,000 and there will be two chefs going home tonight! They have to pick one ingredient that kids don’t like and incorporate it into their dish. Doug picks eggplant and Neal thinks he wants to go home with that choice. The chefs will get their sous chefs for a half hour today to help with prep, but Sue, Jennifer and Neal will not because of their penalty. They also have to incorporate brussels spouts into their dish as another penalty!

Jennifer is hating the brussels sprouts and thinks it is a big curveball. Sue is nervous about going home, especially since it is double elimination. Doug asks about kids liking spicy foods. He is making some jelly eggplant and everyone thinks he is screwing up big time!

The sous chefs come in and Sang is happy because he is making an Italian dish and he doesn’t do meatballs, so his sous chef will help. David burns his dish, so good thing he has immunity! Neal is worried about hiding the vegetables too much in his dish. Sue is making mac and cheese with bacon, so how healthy is that?

The time is done and the chefs are ready and here come the kids on Top Chef Masters 2013! The judges have arrived and Yo Gabba Gabba and time to do some judging. For Jennifer, Curtis doesn’t think kids would like it. They think it is too sour. They think they would like looking at it, but not eating it. For Sang, they question how much cauliflower is there, but they enjoy it. He has a long line!

For Neal, they love it and think it was done great and he has kids. They said it was a sophisticated form of Chef Boyardee! For Doug, they think the eggplant is fun and silly, but then don’t think a child would enjoy it. For David, he had avocado and it is not a good thing with the judges or do the kids! For Sue, Curtis said it is an obvious choice. They wanted something light with the cottage cheese and this is too heavy. For Bryan, they think the presentation is amazing, but the beets taste dirty and said it was like a face full of mud! Bryan doesn’t want to go home on the Yo Gabba Gabba challenge.

Time for the Critics’ Table on Top Chef Masters 2013 and they want to see Doug, Sang and Neal and they had the critics favorite dishes. They thought they were dead when standing next to Doug! The kids enjoyed it though and some of them have never had eggplant before and they thought he gave them a good experience. They thought Sang gave them something they love (meatballs) and added cauliflower into it. They thought Neal did well incorporating the brussels sprouts into it. The winning chef tonight is Neal, so $10,000 for his charity!

They return to the kitchen and the critics ask to see Bryan, Jennifer and Sue! Remember it is a double elimination, so two of them will be going home tonight on Top Chef Masters Season 5. Which two do you think will be getting cut tonight? Bryan is safe tonight, which means that both Sue and Jennifer have been eliminated tonight on Top Chef Masters Season 5! The ladies are gone and now it is a boys show!

Back in the kitchen, the chefs are giving their hugs and Curtis Stone comes back and said that Sue and Jennifer will get a chance to make it back on the show. They will compete on Battle of the Sous Chefs and the winner will come back on the show. Who do you think will win?
