The premiere of Top Chef Masters 2013 kicked off last week and 13 chefs made their way into the kitchen to fight for the victory and money for their charities! Curtis Stone gave the chefs a new twist for Top Chef Masters Season 5: they got to pick their sous chefs they would be working with all season, but those sous chefs would be participating in a new part of the show, which would give the chefs advantages or disadvantages. It is Asian night tonight on Top Chef Masters 2013, so come watch with us during our Top Chef Masters 2013 Live Recap and see who went home on Top Chef Masters Season 5 tonight!

Top Chef Masters - Season 5

Last week on Top Chef Masters 2013, we saw the chefs take their places in the kitchen and begin the competition. They went to the outdoors for the first challenge, as they prepared dishes using the same ingredients their sous chefs used on Battle of the Sous Chefs. They cooked for Skyhawks Parachute Team. The losing sous chefs meant their chefs would have the use of only a butter knife, which makes it difficult to cut meat with! Herbert Wilson had all his knifes, but he did not manage his time well and did not finish his dishes, which is a downfall on Top Chef Masters.

Tonight they will take classic American dishes and put an Asian twist to them and we will see another chef head home. Watch it with us in our Live Recap starting soon!

WARNING: TOP CHEF MASTERS 2013 SPOILERS AHEAD!

Don’t want to know what happened tonight on Top Chef Masters 2013 Live Recap or find out who was eliminated on Top Chef Masters Season 5 tonight? Then don’t read ahead!

*********************************************************************

We start off with the Quickfire Challenge and the chefs walk in and their sous chefs are working on prepping for mise en place. When the first sous chef is done, then the chefs will take over. First sous chef done wins immunity for his chef. The best dish will win $5,000 for their charity and the worst dish will be headed home! An early elimination tonight, huh?

Sang Yoon wins immunity! The chefs now have 30 minutes to complete their dishes and win the challenge. Sang Yoon has the advantage, since his prep was done and the other chefs have to catch up on Top Chef Masters 2013. David Burke took five minuts to break down his lamb, so he feels in a good place. Odette Fada is running behind and screws up when stressed. Richard Sandoval is the last one prepping and this could be elimination for him.

He finally starts cooking, but he realizes he doesn’t have much time so he goes with tartare. The time is running out and time to taste the dishes.

In comes Gail Simmons and time for the judging. She loves Jennifer and Sang’s dish. They start good, but then she doesn’t like Lynn Crawford’s salad. They are blowing through that table of lamb and Gail is being tough on these chefs. The tasting is done and the dishes she loves come from Sang, Sue and Jenn. The winner of the challenge comes from Sue, so she wins $5,000 for her charity.

We still have to deal with the worst dishes of the Quickfire Challenge on Top Chef Masters Season 5. They come from Lynn, Odette and Richard. That means one of them will be going home tonight on Top Chef Masters 2013 and that dish comes from Richard Sandoval, but he also was the last one to get started cooking!

Time for the Elimination Challenge: they will choose an American classic dish and put an Asian twist to it. They have two hours to prep the next day and then cooking begins. They will be cooking for 600 guests, so they will have the help of their sous chefs.

They head out shopping for their dishes. Sang is running around all over and he cooks Asian, but not American with an Asian twist! Douglas Keane has been to Japan a few times recently and it has inspired his recent cooking, so he is feeling good. Odette is Italian and not sure what she is going to do. Franklin Becker is running around thinking someone stole his cart, but he just is rushing so much that he kept running past it!

The next day arrives on Top Chef Masters Season 5 and the chefs start prepping for the dishes. Sue is having issues with the bread, so they decide to hallow it out so it is not just a bite of bread.

The guests have arrived and the food is being served. Kathie Lee Gifford is in attendance tonight and the judges have arrived. The critics tonight are Curtis Stone, Gail Simmons, Francis Lam and James Oseland. Jenn is up first and they didn’t like the bread. For Franklin, they said the burger is full of flavor, but the fries are full of oil. For Odette, they said the noodles are delicious, but the fish ball is starchy.

Next up are Bryan and Neal. For Bryan, they said his soup is fantastic and has such great flavors. For Bryan, they like the chicken heart, but the nugget is too salty.

Next up on Top Chef Masters 2013 are Sang, Lynn and Jennifer. For Sang, James loves the dish. Gail thought it had a ton of flavor. For Lynn, Kathie Lee said she likes it. Curtis said it is really, really good, but James said the slaw is not good. For Jennifer, Francis doesn’t know the twist she out on the dish.

The last chefs are Sue, David and Douglas. For Sue, Curtis said this is a much smarter choice with the bread. James said he found a large piece of shell. For David, Francis said the chicken skin is so amazing. Curtis said there are so many components, but it is genius. For Douglas, James did not like the idea of savory with sweet, but he loved it. Gail thinks it is amazing and super into it.

We are headed back for the Critics’ Table on Top Chef Masters 2013. Curtis comes in and they would like to see Bryan, Douglas and Sang. These three chefs served the critics favorite dishes tonight. Kathie Lee raved about Sang’s slaw. They said Bryan’s dish was a very complicated dish and James thought Douglas’ dish was extraordinaire. The winning dish tonight comes from Sang and his charity gets $10,000.

The judges would now like to see Sue, Odette and Jenn Louis. They have the worst dishes. Odette said she struggled because she cooks neither Asian or American. She tried to make a soft texture for her fish balls, but they said it was too soft and had a weird texture. Gail said that they did not taste the Asian twist enough with Sue’s dish. They didn’t like the bread for Jenn and there was so much bread that they couldn’t get at it.

The critics discuss the bottom three chefs tonight on Top Chef Masters 2013. The decision has been made and the chef eliminated tonight on Top Chef Masters Season 5 is Jenn Louis. Do you agree with the critics’ decision tonight?
