It was all about paying tribute to teachers last week on Top Chef Masters Season 5 and the four remaining chefs had to each create a dish for a four-course meal in honor of teachers at the L.A. Unified School District. It was an emotional evening and everyone seemed to love the dishes created by these chefs, but one of the four had to go home. David Burke tried to take on too much when he decided to make over 60 chocolate souffles. That cost him and he was eliminated.
That leaves us with Bryan, Doug and Jennifer to battle it out one last time for their charities. Bryan won the last Elimination Challenge and that was his first win of the season! How did he make it this far and never win a challenge??? Maybe he is saving himself fir this finale? He made it to the finale of Top Chef Season 6, but lost to his brother Michael Voltaggio. Will he take home the crown this time? Find out in our live recap below!

Here we go…a look back at the season and the final three chefs: Bryan, Jennifer and Doug. Who are you rooting for?
The chefs are in a vehicle together and told to put on some casual clothes and told to show up. They arrive at a church and host Curtis Stone is there and he will be cooking for them today and it looks like some amazing food for them! I love Doug and his sense of humor.
Final Challenge: they will creating a four-course meal that is something new, old, borrowed and sous. They will create a dish to show something old in their cooking. Then a dish to show their new cooking style. Then they will borrow from one of their cooking influences and design a course based on that. The sous is the dish that their sous chefs created in Battle of the Sous Chefs to symbolize their relationship.
At Battle of the Sous Chefs, Bryan’s sous chef won and got $10,000 for Bryan’s charity. Doug’s had the least favorite dish, so he does not get to use him for prep during Day 1 as his penalty! That could be a huge one.
They meet with their sous chefs and work on menus. They get seven hours to shop and prep, so Doug calls on the way there to make sure he can get ahead of time. He seems to have moved pretty fast and is out of there, so he could have saved some time with the no sous chef help on Top Chef Masters 2013.
Bryan and Jennifer are out shopping. Jennifer wants to get back with four hours of prep time still available and Bryan is now stuck in traffic with five hours left and still need to go to Whole Foods!
Jennifer and Bryan are now finishing up their shopping after getting through the traffic. Meanwhile, Doug is back at the Top Chef Masters Kitchen and he is alone and loving it. Jennifer and sous chef get back with three hours left to prep! She wants to chat with Doug, but he is just wanting to cook! Bryan gets back with 2 1/2 hours left of prep on Day 1.
Bryan and his sous chef seem to work together well and do their own thing, but Jennifer is giving order after order after order to her sous chef and he doesn’t even know how he did his dessert at the Battle of the Sous Chefs! He is freaking out and Jennifer is freaking out on Top Chef Masters 2013.
For his first dish, Bryan is going to be serving the first dish he made for his wife. She helped push him to go to culinary school and won her over with this dish, so hoping it helps him win this season. The time runs out for Day 1 and Bryan is feeling confident and Doug is feeling five steps behind everyone, but thinks his sous chef will help him out the next day!
The next day arrives on the Top Chef Masters Season 5 finale and the chefs are finishing up their dishes and everyone is rushing around. They have 45 minutes until the first plate! During his initial season, Doug was one of the chefs at the critics’ table for Bryan’s finale!
Time runs out and it is time to taste the first dish (something old)! For Bryan, they loved the crab and it had a lot going on, but it worked beautifully. For Jennifer, the apple transforms an ordinary dish and you don’t need to f*** with it. For Doug, the dish is brimming with complexity and they are in heaven.
Plate 2 (Something New): For Bryan, they thought Bryan did the best job and it was great. For Doug, it swept them off their feet and it had passion and understand more about Doug, but the noodles did get dried out. For Jennifer, it is fine, but they aren’t going to be dreaming about it like the other two dishes.
Plate 3 (Something Borrowed): For Bryan, they liked the dish, but they didn’t want the seaweed potatoes in their mouth. For Doug, they loved the story, but thought the duck was dry. For Jennifer, they thought the dish looked old, but it is pure Wolfgang Puck and they loved it.
Final Plate (Something Sous): For Bryan, this is a more refined version of his sous chef and they almost like the other one better. For Doug, they’ve never had all these flavors together, but they felt like they always should have been together. For Jennifer, they liked the smokiness, but felt it had too much going on.
So, who is going to win this? I am thinking it is going to be Doug!
Critics Table: the critics have positives and negatives to say about them all and I have no clue. It seems Bryan may have the best critiques, but then you never know. This is going to be a tough one and they say these dishes were the best ever in a finale and I want to taste them all and now I am hungry for this Top Chef Masters 2013 finale!
We are back in front of the critics and time to find out the winner of Top Chef Masters Season 5! Douglas Keane has taken it home and won Top Chef Masters 2013 and wins $100,000 for his charity. He was also the only one without the help out his sous chef during Day 1, so props to him!
