Here we go…the night starts with the Top 12 putting on a group performance and a fun start! It looks like it is Motown Night tonight on The X Factor USA 2013! The judges all agreed after the show last week that Josh Levi did not deserve to go home, so they are giving him a second chance and he is a wild card this week!
Josh Levi (Boys) – He is singing “Who’s Loving You” by The Jackson 5. Mario surprises him at a diner with his mother to tell him he is coming back, so he knows this is his one shot. He is going to work extra hard at making this work. I don’t think the judges were wrong in sending him home last week, but he proved that he deserves to be here with this performance. The song choice is so much better and he just sits there and sings. No performance and nog big show, but just his voice and he nailed it!
Rachel Potter (Over 25s) – She is singing “This Old Heart Of Mine” by Isley Brothers. She puts so much pressure on herself and wants the performance to be perfect. Kelly wants her to come out and have fun. Rachel wanted to put a country twist on this Motown classic and she surely does that. She did such a good job and this was so fun. The song is great, but this country version is so much more fun. And Rachel wearing some short shorts, huh?
Carlos Guevara (Boys) – He is singing “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye. Paulina said the trouble with Carlos is that he needs to enjoy the moment and feel the performance. He said he hasn’t been in the industry long, but he will fight like he;s been in it forever. He seemed to try and get this swag going on and for him, it just looked weird. He tried to be all manly and it didn’t work, even though he sounded good on the vocal.
Restless Road (Groups) – They are singing “Easy” by Lionel Richie. They want to stay true to their roots, even though it is Motown Week on The X Factor USA 2013. These boys get the girls screaming, no matter what they do! They could just stand there and get votes. It is an okay performance, but I am still not blown away by them like I was the first week!
Ellona Santiago (Girls) – She is singing . She took the SATs this week and as much as this experience is important to her, she still wants an education. She is so scared and doesn’t know if she can handle it all! For Ellona, I feel it is more of the production of the show and not of her singing. She has a good voice, but that was not shown until the very end. It was dancing and short skirts and I was over it!
Jeff Gutt (Over 25s) – He is singing “Say You Say Me” by Lionel Richie. He is from Detroit, so it is some added pressure since it is Motown Night. He is worried because he is a rocker and this might be hard for Motown. He worked it out with this performance and he had the rocker vocals going strong. He could come off as a little boring with this performance, but I think Detroit will still be proud!
Alex & Sierra (Groups) – They are singing “Heard It Through The Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye. They do their own thing when on that stage and rearrange songs so much and make them their own. Simon is worried about changing such an iconic song and so is Sierra, but Alex reassures her they will be just fine. I just love them so much. This was so cool and fun and I just love what they do with songs. They both have such strong voices!
Khaya Cohen (Girls) – She is singing “My Girl” by The Temptations. Her Dad is with her this week on The X Factor USA 2013 and he is concerned about her doing this and maybe not having anything to fall back on. That is why she is going to give her best performance to prove to her Dad she has The X Factor. Her voice sounds so much like Amy Winehouse and I love it. This was a great song choice for her and a great vocal!
Carlito Olivero (Boys) – He is singing “Stop In The Name Of Love” by The Supremes. He is worried about this performance because he is singing it as a ballad, which will shock people. This is coming off a very exciting and upbeat performance last week, so he should be worried. This is something new to me hearing this song as a ballad, but I think he did well with it and he has a great voice.
Lillie McCloud (Over 25s) – She is singing “All Is Fair in Love and War” by Stevie Wonder. Simon said that she sounds dated when she sings. She then complains that it is Motown Week and how is she supposed to look and sound younger with this genre. Kelly said Simon is crazy and she is a hot Grandma. Another great performance from her and she can sing so damn good!
Sweet Suspense (Groups) – They are singing “You Keep me Hanging On” by The Supremes. They are a new group and are struggling with getting everything in order. For any of the acts tonight, this genre was a good one for them. The song fit them well and they sounded great, but struggled with their stage presence as a group.
Rion Paige (Girls) – She is singing “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye. She is a country girl at heart, so this is a tough week for her on The X Factor USA 2013! Demi wants her to show her vulnerability with this song. She said she is going to put her best foot forward and give them a show. I like her country voice and think she is good, but this performance bored me a little bit.
Tim Olstad (Boys) – He is singing “I’ll Be There” by The Jackson 5. Simon told him last week that he felt like he was at a funeral and the funeral director came out to sing. That comment stuck with Tim all week and he doesn’t think people understand him yet. I think he does have a very good voice and good control, however he is very boring and this was another boring song selection.
That’s it for tonight on The X Factor USA 2013! Who are you voting for tonight?
