***************************************************************
Here we go…there is no song for survival tonight and Mario Lopez is going to announce the act with the lowest number of votes! The act going home tonight on The X Factor USA 2013 is Carlos Guevara!!! I am shocked…how about you?
Lillie McCloud (Over 25s) – “Ain’t Nobody” by Chaka Khan
In 1986, she was under the name Nicole McCloud and she had a single, but then nothing came from it. She has been working towards it ever since. Kelly Rowland wants to see her move this week, but she struggled to remember the lyrics and the movement during rehearsals. The movement felt awkward from Lillie and this song did not highlight her big voice, but it was fun to see her having fun on that stage!
Carlito Olivero (Boys) – “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” by Gloria Estefan
He wasn’t feeling that good after his performance last week, so his Dad flew out to see him this week. He said he was proud of him, so that is all he needed to hear to put on a great performance tonight. For this one, it was focused more on what was going on on that stage and his dancing, but this is a vocal performance contest, right? He did not have the vocals at all, but he is pretty and can put on a good show.
Rion Paige (Girls) – “We Belong” by Pat Benatar
Rion thinks the Spice Girls were fun from the ’80s, even though they were from the ’90s! Demi wants her to rock it out tonight. The non-chorus parts sound so amazing. She has that country voice that is amazing and she makes this rock song a little country at parts. She is only 13 years old, which is amazing. She has a great voice and I am a fan.
Sweet Suspense (Groups) – “Hey Mickey” by Toni Basil
He wants them to have fun with this song. He thinks they are young and fun and wants to portray that with this song choice. I think it is a terrible song choice and they will look even more silly than I think they already area coming off. The girl in the middle just makes this performance awkward for me. She tries to dance and seems awkward. They can sing, but how do you really screw up this song?Karaoke much?
Tim Olstad (Boys) – “Against All Odds” by Phil Collins
For some reason, Paulina Rubio thinks that Tim is America’s favorite and always mentions America when she mentions Tim. We see some emotion from Tim in the package video, which might help him with some votes. He seems like he always has a wall up, but that wall was broken then, huh? They try so hard to make Tim a young and relevant artist, but that is not his style. He appeals to the oldies and he needs to stick with that. Great voice, but not for this show.
Khaya Cohen (Girls) – “Borderline” by Madonna
Khaya said this is definitely more her style. Demi Lovato said that she can show off her different styles when she makes an album, but Khaya has to blow everyone out of the water with every performance she has. I just love the tone of Khaya’s voice. She is like a reincarnated version of Amy Winehouse. I think Khaya can sing and she works the stage and works it with Simon Cowell. She made a popular song her own and I am impressed.
Restless Road (Groups) – “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins
I guess the ’80s are fun, so the boys wanted to go out and “throw the football around.” How setup was that to see them in their muscle shirts? Blake Shelton made this into a country song for the movie last year, so I am intrigued to see what these boys do. This just seemed cheesy to me. And the lead singer seems very nasally to me. Anyone else? The deep-voice guy should sing more and the other one is what makes it cheesy! I am losing hope for these guys on The X Factor USA 2013!
Rachel Potter (Over 25s) – “Alone” by Heart
Simon Cowell said she was a very inconsistent singer last week, so Kelly said she needs to tap into an emotion and that is the key to her consistency. She needs to connect to each and every song. If you want to take on this song and do it country, than you must know that you will be compared to Carrie Underwood and when she was on American Idol. Rachel Potter, sorry, but you are a good singer, but this did not even come close to comparison. She does a scream towards the end of the performance that made my ears hurt.
Ellona Santiago (Girls) – “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” by Whitney Houston
Demi said that when she thought of Ellona for ’80s Week she thought immediately of a Whitney Houston song. Demi thinks that no one should cover a Whitney song, but she thinks Ellona can do it, but it will be a hit or a miss for her. To be honest, I am just not a fan of Ellona. She does all these productions and I think her vocals are lacking. She is entertaining, but that is all I get from her.
Josh Levi (Boys) – “Straight Up” by Paula Abdul
The last time that Josh sang and danced, he went home. He was brought back by the judges and just sang the past two performances and nailed it, Now we are back and Paulina is giving him a dance song and said he can do it. She makes him do cardio while singing the song to get used to it. For this performance on The X Factor USA 2013, he starts so strong and then fades away for a little while, but he went into the dance part and nailed it and looked good. He has the good dance moves and makes this performance work for him.
Jeff Gutt (Over 25s) – “(I Just) Died In Your Arms Tonight” by Cutting Crew
He said he has about $1 in his bank account and he has a son to raise, which is not possible to do. Jeff is not getting sleep and is having insomnia at night and getting like 2 or 3 hours of sleep. He does some yoga and it helps. I am a fan of Jeff and thinks he has put on some amazing performances this season and I love his rocker voice. I don’t think this was a good song choice for him and the song seemed too big for his voice.
Alex & Sierra (Groups) – “Addicted To Love” by Robert Palmer
For this song, Simon said they completely changed the arrangement around. He said they will be a hit or sound dreadful. Sierra is a dancer and she feels comfortable with it, so she doesn’t even think about it. However, with singing she is worried and thinking about everything she does. I just love these two and it doesn’t matter what they do, it turns out good. Alex’s voice stood out more during this performance, but then Sierra kicked it and they rocked it out!
