We got a sneak peek at The Winner Is on NBC back in June when they were using The Voice USA Season 4 as a lead-in and hoping to attract some viewers for The Winner Is 2013. It worked and the show got some decent viewers, but seeming it has been about a month since the second episode aired people forgot about it. NBC also switched nights and it airs on a Thursday. so The Winner Is Season 1 ratings went down. Nick Lachey is back and we still love it, so check out our The Winner Is 2013 Recap below!

The Winner Is - Season 1

How it works: three rounds, six singers and a chance to move on to the $1 million prize at the end! There is a panel of music bloggers and experts that are the judges (101 of them). Two singers battle it out and the judges pick a winner. They are given the vote totals, but not who has what number. Nick Lachey offers them money and they can take the money and leave the show or wait for the voting results and see who moves on. Each week, one person will move on to The Winner Is 2013 finals and a chance at the big money, but will the temptation of money ruin their chances???

ROUND ONE

Senior Sounds of Touch vs. Miranda Rae Mayo

Senior Sounds of Touch is here to show the young people how this is done! They want to win the money for their grandkids and they are in it to win it. Miranda started singing at eight years old in church. She is a model and singing is a hobby, but she feels right when she sings. She wants to help her family if she wins. Senior Sounds of Touch sings “Locked Out Of Heaven,” which surprises me. They have good voices, but there doesn’t seem to be anything too special about them and I am a little bored. Miranda sings “Set Fire To The Rain” and it is not terrible. She has some potential in her voice and I would pick her as the winner.
Judges Vote: 80 to 21
Offer: $10,000, which neither of them take
The Winner IsSenior Sounds of Touch (I am shocked)!!!

Kenny Ray Horton vs. Jesse Mayo

Kenny is an active duty U.S. Navy sailor and he is a lead singer for the Navy band. His folks are sick and the medical bills are racking up. Jesse joined the show choir to meet the ladies and he fell in love with singing. He moved to L.A. to pursue his singing career, but now is working minimum wage and trying to make it. Kenny sings “God Bless The U.S.A.” He has a great country voice and the song choice is fitting, huh? Jesse sings “Glad You Came” and talk about a difference between performances. Jesse is alright and the ladies love him, but I think Kenny has the stronger voice.
Judges Vote: 73 to 28
Offer: $10,000, which neither of them take
The Winner IsKenny Ray Horton

The American Bombshells vs. Douglas Roegiers

The American Bombshells travel with the U.S.O. to show support for the troops. They bring smiles and laughter to our nation’s heroes. Douglas loves old school performances and is newly single and wants to find a lady if he wins this money. He wants to prove that the American songbook is still alive. This should be an interesting battle. The American Bombshells sing “Feeling Good” and I am in love with this song. They have some amazing voices and it started rough for me, but they kicked it in and I am a fan. Douglas sings “Luck Be A Lady Tonight” and he does sound like Frank Sinatra and has that classic voice, but the others were more entertaining.
Judges Vote: 90 to 11
Offer: $10,000, which neither of them take
The Winner IsDouglas Roegiers (shocked again)

That is the end of Round 1 on The Winner Is on NBC and Douglas Roegiers wins the Fast Track with the most votes and he goes straight to the final round tonight.

ROUND TWO

Senior Sounds of Touch vs. Kenny Ray Horton

Senior Sounds of Touch plans on winning this round of The Winner Is 2013 by bringing Motown back. Kenny is a family man and wants to bring this home to his family. Senior Sounds of Touch sings “I Can’t Help Myself” and it is bringing us back to Motown. They have that great classic voice, but I am still not impressed. Kenny sings “Chicken Fried” and I am still impressed by his country voice and I am rooting for him!
Judges Vote: 68 to 33
Offer: $25,000, which neither of them take

FINAL ROUND

Douglas Roegiers vs. Senior Sounds of Touch

Douglas is wearing his grandad’s hat and hopes he will be helping him tonight. He sings “Ain’t That A Kick In The Head” and I am amazed with how old school he does sound. He has a very strong voice and I feel like I am back in the 1920’s. Senior Sounds of Touch will be singing “Get Ready” and I am loving the song choice. They are great in their genre, so this is a tough one to pick a winner on. Talking to their families afterwards and Doug’s sister tells him to take the money!
Judges Vote: 60 to 41
Offer: $50,000, which Doug takes and leaves the competition with some money in his hands
The Winner IsSenior Sounds of Touch

We have another singer moving on to the finals. Do you agree with their choices?
