The Voice - Season 5

Last week on The Voice 2013, the Top 20 took the stage and performed for America’s votes, but the decisions were based on teams. Five singers started the week on each team, but thanks to America saving two of them and the coaches saving one, we ended up with the Top 12.

I think there is some major talent in this crop of singers this season, but it is all based on how America votes and it seems like James Wolpert may be an early favorite with his high ranking on iTunes. Do you agree? Follow along with the performances tonight with our recap starting soon!

Here we go…

Caroline Pennell (Team CeeLo) – “Wake Me Up” by Avicii

CeeLo said that Caroline has stolen the hearts of America and now he wants to pick up the pace. She said that her Dad is in music and she sees him on stage and it makes her want to get into this sooner and sooner. I do enjoy her voice and think she is a great singer, but I feel this song choice did not suit her style. I think CeeLo was trying to get her to put on a show and I was not a fan of it. What did you think?

Josh Logan (Team Christina) – “Man In The Mirror” by Michael Jackson

Christina saved him last week and she said they are going to regroup and get America connect with him. She said with this song it is going to be all or nothing with the audience. I think he is a good singer and performer, but I think the connection was missed with this song. I don’t think it suited his voice well either tonight!

James Wolpert (Team Adam) – “Mr. Brightside” by The Killers

Adam said James is riding a big wave right now and needs to keep riding it, but he needs to be more upbeat tonight on The Voice USA 2013. James said there is no room for error now. I just love this guy and he had some good moments in this song, but it started out more like a musical or something and not as a performance. He hots those big notes though and he’ll be just fine.

Austin Jenckes (Team Blake) – “It’s A Great Day To Be Alive” by Travis Tritt

Blake wants to show everyone that Austin can have the country crossover success. He knows he can hit those emotions and he wants the country fan base to be excited about him. Austin is a very good singer and I think he is on the perfect team with Blake. Blake knows how to win this thing and he worked it out with that country song selection. He nailed it and Blake said he is so solid every time he gets on this stage.

Jacquie Lee (Team Christina) – “Love Is Blindness” by Jack White

Jacquie just blew me away with her performance last week on The Voice 2013. Christina now wants to show America that she can be current and be on the top of the charts right now. After her performance from last week, I am a little disappointed with this one. It seemed very similar and she likes to hit those big notes, but she just belts them out and is so loud about it. It got annoying to me tonight.

Ray Boudreaux (Team Blake) – “All Of Me” by John Legend

Blake thinks Ray can still win this season, even though he had to use his save on him last week. Blake wanted him to sing a song about love, but Ray is worried about this song and having to open up emotionally with this choice. He does his thing and the ladies just love this man, as do many guys! His daughter is adorable and this could help him out. Blake said he got wrapped up in that one and Ray is sexy.

Kat Robichaud (Team CeeLo) – “Sail” by Awolnation

CeeLo thinks the softer side was necessary and showed America more of her, but they can go balls to the wall every time! What Kat does is connect with the audience, but why doesn’t that bring in the votes? I think she went too soft last week and this performance was so Kat and I loved it. CeeLo made a good song choice this week on The Voice USA 2013 and I loved it!

Jonny Gray (Team CeeLo) – “Another Day In Paradise” by Phil Collins

CeeLo wants to show another side of Jonny and not be predictable. He said he connects with the lyrics, but not always with the audience. There is something about Jonny and his voice that I love, but this was not a great song choice. The emotion that CeeLo wanted, I did not see. It was sung well, but the connection was not there.

Tessanne Chin (Team Adam) – “My Kind Of Love” by Emeli Sande

Adam thought she did a mellow performance and still connected with the audience, so he is giving her a big number and she will knock it out even more this week. He thinks she has a Grammy-winning voice. First of all, she looks beautiful tonight. Secondly, she can sing anything and make it sound good. If Tessanne does not win The Voice Season 5 then I don’t know what is wrong with people!

Matthew Schuler (Team Christina) – “Hallelujah” by Jeff Buckley

Christina said they are going to strip it down and show where Matthew’s heart is it. They are going back to his roots with this song. He said this song will show off the delicate parts of his voice. For me, I think this was a safe bet from Christina. Strip it down or not, but this was a given for him to sing on The Voice USA 2013. He sings it well, but I am just not a fan.

Cole Vosbury (Team Blake) – “Adorn” by Miguel

Blake said that now that we know what kind of artist he is, now we can put his stamp on songs. His older sister was killed in a car accident, but he doesn’t talk about it out loud. He got into music to deal with things. This is similar to Blake and his brother. He said if he doesn’t pull this song off, it could be the end of the road. I am a fan of Cole, but the music seemed to drown him out tonight. I could barely understand him at times, but I want to root for him!

Will Champlin (Team Adam) – “Demons” by Imagine Dragons

Will was Adam’s save last week. Adam thinks he is on the rise and people are coming to him and he hasn’t hit his peak yet. He thinks this song shows off all the emotions he needs. Will is another one that I am a fan of and he seems so humble to be here and I like that about him. He can sing very well, but was it too much like the original?
