We also got to see a new twist, as the Twitter Save was introduced and America got to vote one more time on their favorites based on the bottom three singers. It’s hard to believe, but we are down to only ten singers and one of them will be the winner of The Voice USA Season 5! There are some standouts, but then each week seems to bring someone out of the shadows and they shine and go up on my ladder, like Will Champlin from Team Adam! ***************************************************************
Here we go…the show kicks off with a performance by the Top 10, but who wants to see this? Let’s just get to their individual performances please!
Austin Jenckes (Team Blake) – “Your Love” by The Outfield
Blake said he has a lot of consistent performances, but now he wants to shock people and thinks this could be his breakout moment. He wants Austin to make this song his own. Blake loves the raw emotion of this song, but he wants Austin to show America his pipes! This is such a popular song and everyone does seem to know it, so it is tough to take it on. Blake said something about making it his own, but I did not feel that. He sings it well, but nothing that shocked me!
Jacquie Lee (Team Christina) – “Clarity” by Zedd
Christina brings in a yoga instructor to help Jacquie to find that center. She picked this song for Jacquie to show a softer side of her and her vulnerable side. They are stripping it down and making it emotional. She did strip her down for this one and it had very good moments, but she got pitchy at times. I liked they did this song though and not belt out like she normally does. She tried at times and I just wanted simple.
Will Champlin (Team Adam) – “Love Me Again” by John Newman
Adam said he needs to just go for it and have fun. This is a British song that hasn’t hit America yet, but Will thinks this is right in his wheelhouse. Adam thinks this song is perfect to show off his range. I think it was a great song choice for Will. I said it before, but Will is rising in the rankings for me on The Voice USA 2013. This performance moved him up even higher. This was such a good performance and I love his voice!
Caroline Pennell (Team CeeLo) – “Leaving On A Jet Plane” by John Denver
Caroline chose this song for the week and has a connection to it. She sang this at camp and just got into college, so she will be leaving home for the first time soon and is really relating to it. Why is there always some kind of rainbow behind Caroline when she performs? She looks beautiful tonight, but the screens behind her are so distracting and childish, which is silly. She has a great voice and she is back this week after, what I think, was a lackluster performance last week!
Cole Vosbury (Team Blake) – “To Be With You” by Mr. Big
Blake said that Cole is one of the most creative people they have had on The Voice and he wants to keep breaking the mold. Cole has such a history with this song and is amazed that Blake picked it for him. Blake thinks it is the perfect song for him and we still haven’t seen the best of Cole, which excites him. I think Cole is that dark horse this season on The Voice USA 2013. He has such a strong and solid voice and will do well on Team Blake. Another great performance from him!
Tessanne Chin (Team Adam) – “If I Were Your Woman” by Gladys Knight & The Pips
Adam thinks this next song is where Tessanne connects with the audience even more. He said this song has a classic feel to it and it fits her well. She thinks this song is kicking her ass, but she will kick it back! Yeah, she kicked it right back in her performance tonight. She has such a strong voice and she uses it the right way. She has control and this was beyond solid!
Ray Boudreaux (Team Blake) – “You Are The Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne
Blake does not want Ray to get too far from the artist that he wants to be. He thinks that Ray and Ray LaMontagne have a very similar sound, so it is a perfect marriage between song and artist. I think Ray sounds so much like Ray LaMontagne, so it could be a good thing or bad thing. I think he sounded very good on this performance, but if you know the song, then you know it sounded very similar to the original. He hits some big notes and had a good performance. Blake said that was awesome and he brought it back to who he is as an artist.
James Wolpert (Team Adam) – “Without You” by Harry Nilsson
James said that doing a classic song is a risk, but it is so worth the risk. Adam thinks you sing a song that a generation of people don’t know, but if he nails it than he has them all wanting to buy it on iTunes. I wasn’t so sure when this song first started on The Voice USA 2013, but then he nails it and I am a fan. He has that weird tone to his voice and at parts I wasn’t sure if it worked, but the better parts outweighed that for me. Adam said that is one of the hardest songs and this is amazing.
Kat Robichaud (Team CeeLo) – “We Belong” by Pat Benatar
CeeLo said there strategy this week is t let Kat be the artist that she is. He wants this performance to be of epic proportion for her. They bring in the choreographer and we shall see theatrics from Kat, especially will CeeLo as her coach. I am a big fan of Kat and think she is entertaining and this started so strong, but she went a little sloppy in the middle, but then picked it up when she hit that piano towards the end. Maybe thinking about the production too much? Adam said this is the Kat we have been waiting to see all season.
Matthew Schuler (Team Christina) – “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Labrinth
Christina said that Matthew can do anything and she wants to keep surprising people. And she brings in the yoga instructor for Matthew as well. Christina said to be vulnerable and be that guy that every girls wants to fall in love with. The performance starts out and I cannot even hear him! Some people feel he connected last week with his performance, but I think that connection is gone again tonight on The Voice 2013.
The performances are done for tonight on The Voice USA 2013. Who are you voting for?
