The Voice USA 2013 Recap: Night 1 – Live Playoffs (VIDEO)
| November 4, 2013 at 7:00 PM ESTAfter all the Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds and Knockout Rounds on The Voice USA 2013, we have come to the live shows on The Voice USA Season 5 and time for America to vote for their favorites. The coaches (Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Christina Aguilera and CeeLo Green) have set their teams up for these live shows and now it is time for them to perform for us and see what we think. We have a three-night special this week on The Voice 2013, with ten of the singers performing tonight and the other ten singers tomorrow night and we get the results on The Voice Season 5 on Thursday night. Come follow along with us tonight during our The Voice USA 2013 Recap and see the performances with us!
Tonight we get to see Team Blake and Team Adam perform. They each have five singers and thanks to our The Voice USA 2013 spoilers, we have the song list for tonight’s performances! I am excited to see these performances, as Blake has won three seasons in a row, so can he do it again this season?
And Team Adam has some very strong singers this season. Tessanne Chin is one of the early favorites to win The Voice Season 5, but will people vote for her? It goes beyond her, but she is one of my favorites. Come watch the performances with us in our recap starting soon!
WARNING: THE VOICE USA 2013 SPOILERS AHEAD!
The following post contains videos from tonight’s episode of The Voice 2013 Season 5 Live Playoffs. Don’t want to see them yet, then don’t look ahead!!!
****************************************************************
Here we go…we are live for the first time this season! Team Adam and Team Blake will perform tonight. Before we get to the contestants singing, let’s watch Christina Aguilera perform with Flo Rida and his new single “How I Feel” and we all know how Christina doesn’t like to wear much clothing and she does not disappoint here. She looks so good though!
We find out that the singers who end up in the Top 10 on the iTunes charts will get their votes multiplied by five, which is down from the ten times the past couple seasons. I think it all needs to just go myself! Here we go with the performances!
Shelbie Z. (Team Blake) – “Fancy” by Reba McEntire
She said to make it this far is a blessing in itself. On September 14, she got married! For this song, she wants to redneck it up some and make it country and rock. Blake said that Reba is part actress and she plays a part when she sings her songs and she watches this show, so make her proud. Shelbie has a great country voice and she delivers on this great song. She has such strong presence and I love watching her! She ends it with a huge not and lots of applause!
James Wolpert (Team Adam) – “A Case Of You” by Joni Mitchell
He has been in an a capella group in college and he wants to strip down this performance like that. Adam said the last time he performed he did not do well, so forget that and show why he is one of the best singers in this competition. This performance was amazing. He stripped it down completely and showed so much emotion while singing and he connected so well with it. You look at him and don’t expect it, but he impresses me every time he performs on The Voice USA 2013! Blake said he can’t be a geek and be that awesome!
Nic Hawk (Team Blake) – “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke
Nic said to have fans is mind-blowing. Blake said he thinks this is a big song right now and wants to get the rap in there, which Nic is okay with. Blake said they were going to try and get Miley Cyrus to come in and twerk on him1 This is such a hard song to sing since it is so popular, but Nic is a pure entertainer. He owns that stage and does a very good job. I just want to sit and watch him, plain and simple, and to me that is a star! CeeLo Green said Nic is one of his favorites and he did an amazing job. Adam said how can anyone watch Nic perform and not be entertained. Blake said he did everything he could do as a performer and he is the complete entertainer.
Ray Boudreaux (Team Blake) – “Home” by Marc Broussard
Ray feels like a world traveler now, as he has been on a plane four times now! Ray said this is his roots and to go out in front of millions of people and show them, he is so excited. Blake said he is a soulful singer and this is going to be the performance of the night. He does have that soulful voice and he was so comfortable up there. I loved it and he is easy on the eyes! Christina said this was her favorite performance from him and he felt so connected.
Austin Jenckes (Team Blake) – “She Talks To Angels” by The Black Crowes
Blake said that he gave him this song because he connects with the song and the audience and he can do that with this song. He thinks his voice is so strong, but he has a tender side to it. Austin has such an emotional voice. He connects with every song he sings and he makes you feel the lyrics on The Voice USA 2013. He is so comfortable up there. Christina said he sings with so much heart!
Grey (Team Adam) – “Still Into You” by Paramore
She works retail during the day and gigs at night, so she is crazy excited to be on The Voice stage. Adam gave her this song to get away from her comfort and wedding singer style and show off that rocker. She works the stage very well and slapping hands with the audience. She has a very good voice and this is a good performance, but she might be overlooked by being on Team Adam! What do you think?
Will Champlin (Team Adam) – “Secrets” by OneRepublic
Will has gone from Team Adam to Team Christina and then back to Team Adam! He thinks since he was stolen twice that people are going to expect more out of him. Adam said he is very connected to his family and is very talented, but not cocky and Adam loves that. Will thinks piano is his instrument and wants to work that into his performance. Will has a great voice and I think he should have won his Knockout Round. He does great with this song, even though he stumbled with the microphone and going from the keyboard and back.
Preston Pohl (Team Adam) – “Nothin’ On You” by B.O.B. featuring Bruno Mars
I absolutely love Preston’s voice and am excited for this one. He was in a Christian rock band and a year ago he got a call from his Mom that his dad had cancer. He left the band and went home, but a year later his Dad is now cancer-free! Adam said he has such a unique voice and thinks this is a great song choice for him. While Adam thinks it was a great song choice, I would beg to differ. I think he was disconnected from the song and he did not have the normal quality that I love about his voice.
Cole Vosbury (Team Blake) – “Maggie May” by Rod Stewart
He thinks that Blake could help him become the singer he wants to be. This is the first time they have worked together, so this will be interesting. Blake thinks no one in the world sounds like him and once he gets the love from America we will see that personality shine through. He does have a very good voice, but to me it sounded too much like the original. He tried to go away from it, but I don’t think he ventured out far enough.
Tessanne Chin (Team Adam) – “Many Rivers To Cross” by Jimmy Cliff
She said working with Adam she feels that she is becoming the singer she wants to be. She wants to stay true to her Jamaican heritage, so that is why Adam thinks this is perfect for her. This is her chance to step out from the background and go to the front of the stage. She has an amazingly strong voice and she is looking like the winner of this season, not gonna lie. I have no idea what this song is, but you could feel her connect to it and made me a fan!
