Rising Star 2014 Recap: Week 5 – The Duels Round 2

Time for another week of Duels on Rising Star 2014, as six more performers will take the stage and fight it out for your votes on Rising Star on ABC. The whole competition is a joke, as the Rising Star experts 2014 (Kesha, Ludacris and Brad Paisley) really control the outcome. If they like the singer and vote yes for them, then they get 7% added to their total. All three like them and that is 21%, which is a huge chunk. Last week on ABC’s Rising Star, we had the new round begin. While it has a different feel to it, it is very similar to the Battle Rounds on The Voice. Two singers battle it out and only one will move on to the next round. They got some advice from the experts before taking the stage and then the first singer sang with no wall in front of them! Then the second singer would sing behind the wall and hope they get a better percentage and make that wall raise! In the end, we saw Alice J. Lee, Megan Tibbits and Jesse Kinch move on!

Here we go…

Gabrielle Nicole vs. Macy Kate

GABRIELLE – She stated that people should be worried about who is going up against her! The experts tell her to be humble about things and not be cocky about it, but be confident. She sings “River Deep Mountain High” by Ike & Tina Turner and I am not a fan. This is a terrible song choice and it does nothing for her voice. She has a ton of energy on that stage, but I am annoyed more than liking it. This is where I say the experts favor someone, as they all vote yes for her and she only gets to 49%!

MACY – We are still playing that Instagram audition thing and acting like Macy Kate wasn’t a plant for the show. She sings “Demons” by Imagine Dragons. Like her first audition, I don’t think that she is that strong on Rising Star 2014. She has a fan base out there and website and a following and they must show up to vote. She gets to 80%.

RESULTS: We have Macy Kate moving on with an 80% and Gabrielle has been eliminated!

April Lockhart vs. Sonnet Simmons

SONNET – She said she was so nervous during her audition and closed her eyes through most of it! She sings “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone. Where do they find these “singers” and can we send them back? Her voice is terrible and she goes for those high notes and it makes the hair on my body stand up! It hurts my ears and it sounds like a joke American Idol audition, but they experts love her and she gets to 73% (what)???

APRIL – She was overwhelmed when getting paired against Sonnet, who has a lot more experience then her. She sings “Animal” by Neon Trees. To be honest, I think April has the better voice on Rising Star 2014 and it was not that gerat. I like the sound of it and I worried about it, but she gets to 76% at the end!

RESULTS: We have April with 76% and she is moving on, which means Sonnet is headed home.

Adam Jaymes vs. Austin French

AUSTIN – He liked seeing the faces on the wall and they were not just faces, but fans (yeah, keep telling yourself that). He sings “I Don’t Want To Be” by Gavin DeGraw. He has some rough moments and I am not sure, but he has a decent voice on him. While he may be alright, I hear nothing different from the original song. So, he can copy decently? He finishes with 81%.

ADAM – He said the time with the experts was very much a collaboration and he was loving it. He sings “Free Fallin'” by Tom Petty. To be honest, he probably has the best voice of the night. It is smooth and he puts a little twist on this classic. He is calm and just up there singing and I am enjoying it. Ludacris votes no and he has no chance of raising that wall now! He ends with 53%.

RESULTS: We have Austin with 81% and he is moving on, which means Adam is headed home.
