Rising Star 2014 Recap: Week 4 – The Duels Begin!

We have the final 20 on Rising Star 2014 in place and it is time to bring things to a new level, as the Duels on Rising Star on ABC begin tonight! The Rising Star experts (Kesha, Ludacris and Brad Paisley) will switch from experts to mentors, as they help these contestants prepare for the Duels and hope they will be able to move on to the next round. Watch it with us tonight during our Rising Star 2014 Recap and see who got eliminated on Rising Star 2014 tonight!

Last week on Rising Star on ABC, the final auditions took place and the wall was raised a few more time. The contestants will be taking on the wall again this week, but also competing against one of the other contestants! Per ABC: “Here’s how it works. Each week, your favorite performers will be paired up to compete. The first performer will give it their all and you’ll vote “yes” or “no” for them through the Rising Star app just like you did during the live auditions. Then it will be their competitor’s turn. Whichever performer gets the highest percentage of “yes” votes from both east and west will stay in the competition. The performer who fall short? They go home.”

Here we go…whichever singers gets the higher percentage tonight will move on to the next round, so Josh Groban said the West Coast will play a huge factor into the night.

Alice J. Lee vs. Lisa Punch

ALICE: She was feeling nervous standing in front of the experts and nervous to go up against Lisa. They want less energy and more voice. She sings “Wings” by Little Mix. I am a huge fan of this song and think she has moments of sounding good, but her range is not great for this song. She seems to get more and more tired as the song goes on. She ends with 69%.

LISA: The experts said they are both powerful singers. They want her to be more engaging. While Lisa sang with the wall down, Lisa will sing with the wall down and needs to beat 69% to get the wall to raise. She sings “Perfect” by P!nk and I am a huge fan of this rendition. Lisa has a strong voice and I think one of the best in the competition, but Kesha is the only expert that agrees with me. Brad and Ludacris hit no and she ends with 66%!

RESULTS: It looks like Alice is moving on with 69% and Lisa has been eliminated!

Megan Tibbits vs. Sarah Darling

MEGAN: She is ditching the harp this week and going with the guitar. Ludacris is happy she is doing something different and will catch people off-guard with this one on Rising Star 2014. She sings “Summertime” and this song has been done plenty of times on these singing competition shows, but Megan puts a twist on it and I am liking it. She has this rocker/twang sound to her voice and I like it. She goes for that high note and it hurts my ears…it is bad. The experts love her and she gets to 71%.

SARAH: She makes French macaroons and Ludacris said if she makes him some macaroons then she will guarantee his vote! He felt like she did not showcase her voice the first time around and she needs to project it more. She sings “I Hope You Dance” by Lee Ann Womack and this one is a great choice for her! She has a great country voice and this song is very fitting for her. She gets to 69%.

RESULTS: Megan is moving on and Sarah is going home, but it all depends on the West Coast and this whole voting system sucks on Rising Star 2014!

Will Roth vs. Jesse Kinch

WILL: He was excited about this round, but not happy to go up against his friends! He is singing “Wrecking Ball” by Miley Cyrus, which is an odd song choice for him. This is a weird song choice for him, but he does it well. He has a very solid voice and he makes it work. He puts his own twist on it and hits some good notes and ends at 57%.

JESSE: Ludacris wants him to look at a specific person while performing. He sings “Whipping Post” by Allman Brothers and this kid is just amazing. He has such a great rocker voice and gets all three experts to vote for him. This was over-the-top and such high energy and he was so dead-on with that! He ends at 90%!

RESULTS: It wasn’t even close, but we saw Jesse take down Will and Jesse is moving on!
