Rising Star 2014 Recap: Premiere – ABC Tries Singing Competition

All the hype and commercials and talk can come to an end tonight on ABC, as the Rising Star 2014 premiere finally happens and we can see if this show is going to be legit or not. I am worried about it, especially since ABC has tried their hand in the singing competition business and failed big time. If anything, ABC’s Rising Star should bring some entertainment to our Sunday nights, right? Watch it with us tonight during our Rising Star 2014 Recap and see who got eliminated on Rising Star 2014 tonight!

If Rising Star 2014 on ABC does not do well in the ratings, I am thinking it will be a big loss for ABC because they have put some major marketing behind Rising Star on ABC! They are trying to break into the singing competition genre, but I just don’t see it happening, even with experts Brad Paisley, Kesha and Ludacris lending their opinions every week and Josh Groban taking on the hosting duties. Do you think I am wrong? I guess we will find out tonight with the premiere of Rising Star 2014 on ABC and see how many singers can make that wall rise!

Here we go…they are really hyping this show up, huh? We have hopefuls auditioning tonight for America! They have one song and have to get up to 70% on that wall before they are done singing. If they do, they move on. If they don’t, they are headed home! Ludacris, Kesha and Brad Paisley will give their expertise and each of their votes will add 7%, so we are doing this together and we are doing it live!

Josh Groban comes out and introduces the wall and the panel of experts come out and Kesha is looking rough! Everyone is in place and time for the auditions on Rising Star 2014 begin! Get your Rising Star app and vote for your favorites tonight! They said it would be two minutes before the first audition, but they wasted like ten minutes just chatting!

Joshua Peavy – He is 28 years old and a youth music pastor. Where he lives, there are no jobs and businesses are leaving. Substance abuse is high, so his job is to go around and try to inspire kids about making wise choices and this is his chance to sow them if you fight for your dreams then they could happen. He sings “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” and he has a decent voice. To be honest, this might be a joke. I think people will vote for them just to see their picture on the wall! They sing behind the wall and if enough votes, the wall rises and we see them not on the screen. All three experts vote for him and he gets to 87% and the wall has risen and he is moving on!

Joshua Peavy – Everything I Do I Do It For You… by IdolxMuzic

Lisa Punch – She is 21 years old living in Brooklyn, New York. She sings “How Will I Know” by Whitney Houston and could the amazing Sam Smith cover of this song hurt her chances? She is a beautiful girl and has a great voice and she works it out for this performance. She gets the three experts to vote for her and ends up at 80% and gets that wall to rise and moves on to the next round!

Macy Kate auditioned via Instagram and was in the audience to watch Rising Star 2014 tonight, but they selected her and now she gets a chance to make that wall rise! She will work with the band backstage and get ready to perform later!

Maneepat Myra Molloy – She is 16 years old and originally from Thailand. For her performance, she will be singing a song in Italian. Will this help or hurt her chances of getting some votes? She has a good voice and it is very operatic, but I am not a huge fan. Would anyone really buy music from her? She gets Brad and Kesha to vote for her and she gets to 73%, so the wall rose and she is moving on to the next round!

Maneepat Molloy – Con Te Partiro – Risng Star… by IdolxMuzic

Daniel & Olivia – They are both 24 years old from Los Angeles. They started out as voice coach and student, but now a happy couple. They want to prove to their parents that singing is a good career choice for them. They sing “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic and Ludacris gets up and gives them a thumbs down! They are just out of pitch and it is bad. She is a voice coach and can’t even sing??? They get to 6% and are headed home!

Daniel & Olivia – Counting Stars – Risng Star… by IdolxMuzic

Jesse Kinch – He is 20 years old from Seaford, New York and music has been his life. He wants to bring that music and feel of music from back in the day. He sings “I Put A Spell On You” and he nails it. He has that raw emotion and he pulls it from deep within and I am a fan. All the experts vote for him and he ends up with 92% and is moving on to the next round!

Jesse Kinch – I Put A Spell On You – Risng… by IdolxMuzic

Beyond 5 – They are from Nashville, Tennessee, and look like they are trying to go for One Direction and failing big time. I am annoyed by them, but we shall see how they sing. They sing “Wake Me Up” and are up there doing their dance moves and they really want to be a boy band, but no one seems to be feeling them. They get votes from Brad Paisley and Kesha, but Ludacris votes them down. America must be over boy bands, as they only get to 46% and will be heading home!

Beyond 5 – Wake Me Up – Risng Star (Week One) by IdolxMuzic

Sarah Darling – She is 31 years old and also from Nashville, Tennessee. She sings “Merry Go ‘Round” and the audience seems to be enjoying her as she starts. When Brad Paisley supports her, I think that should earn her some more points. She has a very good country voice and gets that wall to rise, as she gets to 89% on Rising Star 2014 and she is moving on to the next round!

Sarah Darling – Merry Go Round – Risng Star… by IdolxMuzic

Colin Huntley – He is 16 years old from Austin, Texas, and got his music from his Dad, who happens to be his best friend. He sings “Sing” and I am having some trouble with this one. He has some good points where he sounds decent, but then other parts of this song are way too big for his voice. Ed Sheeran is amazing and Colin is no Ed and took on too big of a song. He only gets to 38% and is headed home!

Summer Collins – She is 18 years old. Her Mom brought her into music, but they lost her to cancer when Summer was 10 years old! Music was her medicine. She sings “Classic” by MKTO. She has that singer-songwriter vibe, but I am not a fan of this song choice. She does not do well and ends at 40% and will be heading home!

Macy Kate – She is back and has her chance to raise that wall on Rising Star 2014! They show her Instagram audition and it basically was a music video of hers. How random was this to bring her on the show tonight? Makes me laugh! She sings “Me and My Broken Heart” and I am just over this all. This is setup way too much, but she does have a good voice. She has that rocker sound to it and I think she could do well, if I look past the lame “Instagram audition” aspect of it. She gets to 93% and raises the wall, so she is moving on to the next round!
