Project Runway 2013 Live Recap: Premiere of Season 11
| January 24, 2013 at 8:00 PM ESTWith Project Runway All Stars Season 2 coming to an end last week that means we have Project Runway 2013 kicking off this week. Heidi Klum and the gang are back with 16 new designers for Season 11, but this time with a twist. As her and Tim Gunn explain, the designers will be competing in teams for the first time in Project Runway history. See how that all goes down during my Project Runway 2013 Live Recap and see who was eliminated on Project Runway Season 11 Premiere.
Besides the big news on the team challenges every week, we also have even bigger news coming out of Project Runway 2013. Michael Kors will not be a judge this season, but he has been replaced by Zac Posen. Michael is taking some personal time to focus on his own projects, but he will serve as a guest judge on the Project Runway Season 11 finale. Zac will bring a younger voice to the judging table, so I think it will be exciting to see him in action. How do you all feel about it?
The remaining judges will be back, as Heidi Klum and Nina Garcia both return for their 11th season and Tim Gunn will be back to help guide these designers during Project Runway 2013. The designers will be split into two teams and creating looks every week. One designer will go home each week from the losing team and we will have one winner when the season ends, so no difference there, but all team challenges. Find out how it goes down during my Project Runway 2013 Live Recap and see who was eliminated on Project Runway Season 11.
Here we go…Daniel has a mustache and voice that makes me want to slap him! Emily thinks she is the winner and everyone else can go home now. Cindy ran a funeral home with her husband, but felt a void and went to design school and just graduated in her 50s!
Heidi and Tim arrive on the runway to share the twist with the designers! It is Project Runway Teams and none of the designers are happy, but Daniel seems happy with the team concept. The teams are: Daniel, Amanda, Layana, Richard, Patricia, Joe, Stanley and Kate. The other team is: Benjamin, Cindy, Emily, James, Matthew, Michelle, Samantha and Tu.
The first challenge is to create a garment to show off who they are as a designer, but with the input of their team. The inspiration for the challenge is New York City. The first team gets a view of NYC from the Hudson River to inspire them and the second team gets a view from above on the Atlas roof. The first team calls themselves Team Keeping It Real (they say they won’t be fighting) and the second team is Dream Team.
The designers meet Tim Gunn in the workroom and find out they have a $1200 budget for their team and one day to create their look. They go out shopping, but I think it is going to get ugly with everyone fitting in the budget. It works and they all head back to the workroom.
Patricia is doing some painting for her look, but will she get it done in time? Dream Team seems to be working alone, while Keeping It Real seems to be helping each other out.
Tim Gunn is in love with this team concept, as he comes in for the critique. Keeping It Real seems to be working together very well and Dream Team is just there. Emily then thinks Cindy is not doing well and she just needs to beat one person.
As the night ends, Emily has nothing done and she is going to need a lot of help. Not feeling so confident now are ya?
It is the day of runway and Emily needs lots of help. Cindy helps her out and now Emily has a new view on who Cindy is. They are all saying the other team is worse than theirs, but someone is losing! And time is up and the designers head to the runway!
The judges tonight: Heidi Klum, new judge Zac Posen, Nina Garcia and guest judge this week is Christian Siriano. The looks I enjoyed for Keeping It Real: Kate (loved the dress and the color), Patricia (love the painting she did on the dress) and Daniel (loved the suit and the design of it). The looks I did not enjoy: Richard (hate the way the dress is styled), Amanda (very plain look) and Layana (even more plain).
For Dream Team: I loved Amanda’s dress and the fabric used, Tu’s looked like a hooker costume, James’ garment is for an 80-year-old woman, I don’t even know what Emily sent down the runway (it was completely horrendous and she should go home whether they win or lose)!
The winning team tonight is Keeping It Real! The Top 3 designers are Daniel, Richard and Patricia. For Daniel, the judges thought it was super chic and looked expensive. For Richard, they thought he was different and the team helped him make the right choices. For Patricia, they loved the dress and how it was simple and the way she worked the leather.
The losing team is Dream Team and the three lowest designers are James, Cindy and Emily. For James, they thought his team may have lead him in the wrong direction. For Emily, they thought it was horrendous and have never seen something so unfinished go down the runway. For Cindy, they said there is nothing New York about it.
The judges discuss and I think Daniel will win and they will send home Cindy, even though Emily deserves to go home. What do you think for Project Runway 2013?
The designers come back and Daniel wins the first challenge on Project Runway 2013. That means that Richard and Patricia are safe. James is also safe, so it is down to Cindy and Emily. Who is eliminated from Project Runway Season 11? Emily! Cindy is safe and cocky Emily is out. Do you agree?
