The teams were in Oklahoma City last week on Great Food Truck Race Season 5 and it was all about the steak! They had to add a steak dish to their menu and then were forced with adding a local favorite to their menu: a “fried onion burger” and it sent some teams to defeat! Mexican food and burgers don’t mix well together, which is why we saw Madres Mexican Meals as the lowest-earning team for the week and they were sent home! Tonight the teams head to St. Louis and have the chance to double their till with the Truck Stop Challenge!

Here we go…the teams are headed to St. Louis and Middle Feast wants to keep their lead going strong here. Let There Be Bacon is glad to be in the Midwest and people like bacon there. Lone Star Chuck Wagon plans on raising their prices to get out of that bottom spot.
The teams meet up with Tyler Florence and he said it is all about the food here in St. Louis. The teams don’t get seed money this week, but they are going to have to earn it during the Speed Bump! They have to head to a shop that makes toasted ravioli. They will be given boxes of this ravioli and that will earn them their seed money for the weekend!
The teams head to get their ravioli. Bacon is in and out. Beach Cruiser asks how much they sell them for, so they have a selling point. Middle Feast asks how they can put a Middle Eastern twist on it and they don’t look thrilled about it, so they will stick to the original.
Now the teams are heading out and finding their parking spots to sell this ravioli. Middle Feast is actually pairing with a local food truck to get a good spot, but will it work? Beach Cruiser gets lost while trying to find their spot and off to a bad start for their day!
Everyone is in their spots now and the three teams have long lines, but Beach Cruiser is behind. Lone Star is selling their ravioli for $20! Beach Cruiser is selling theirs for $5 and get a coffee next door for $2. Middle Feast sold it all in 30 minutes and have $324 seed money! All the teams are packed up and going to get their normal food, as Lone Star sold 32 raviolis and have $640 for seed money!
The teams are back and Lone Star has their higher prices, so it could deter customers. All the trucks have some high traffic and they are all very busy. Middle Feast is selling tacos also and more expensive than Beach Cruiser and they are not happy.
Here comes Tyler Florence, as he is coming to evaluate the trucks. Bacon is first and they are way behind, so he is going to help them and they have them for 30 minutes! He likes their food and gives them some tips. He tells Middle Feast to be more authentic with their food. He said Lone Star’s food looks amateurish. Beach Cruiser had the best food, but still needed improvements. And Day 1 has come to an end.
The next day arrives and Tyler meets with the teams and said that they would all be closed down within 30 days because their food is not up to par. They will have a cooking challenge today and the winner gets a huge prize on Great Food Truck Race 2014! The teams go shopping and coming up with this new dish for the challenge.
The teams are all setup and serving food, including their new dish for the day. Beach Cruiser was the low team after Day 1, so they are hoping for a great day today. The teams pack up and head out to meet Tyler for the Cooking Challenge and this is a huge one!
TRUCK STOP COOKING CHALLENGE: They meet with Tyler and will be cooking their new dish. He will be judging on creativity, presentation and taste. The best dish will get their total sales for the weekend doubled! The teams head back to their trucks and their nerves are working overtime right now! They have all put their best dish together and time for Tyler to taste them!
TASTING:
- Bacon – He said visually, he wants to see the bacon because that is their story. It tastes good though.
- Lone Star – He said it is delicious and feels an emotional connection and took his mind exactly where it needs to be.
- Beach Cruiser – He said his mind is taking him to Southern California and that is a really good dish.
- Middle Feast – He said it is delicious and he feels their passion and cooking style and it is great.
RESULTS: He loved all of them, but Lone Star wins this challenge and they get their sales doubled this week on Great Food Truck Race 2014!
The teams are all freaking out now and who would be going home this week! Now on to the final results for Week 5!
