| August 24, 2014 at 8:00 PM EDTThe teams on The Great Food Truck Race 2014 will be packing up their food trucks and heading to Tucson tonight and making some hot dogs for their possible customers! Seems easy enough, right? They will also be working on their marketing campaigns and shooting videos along the way, which should be fun to watch! Watch it all go down tonight with us during our Great Food Truck Race 2014 Recap and see who went home on Great Food Truck Race 2014 tonight!
This should be a fun season and some cool new teams, as seen last week on Great Food Truck Race 2014. We saw the new teams get settled into their new trucks and work on their signature dishes. Chatty Chicken struggled both days, as they did not have enough oil the first day and then spent all day trying to get more oil the second day. This led to no sales for a long time and them being sent home. For tonight, the teams will head to Tucson to make hot dogs and work on their marketing campaign!

Here we go…the teams are headed to Tucson and Lone Star Chuck Wagon thinks they are going to be good and can get the Mexican food to these people. They are supposed to cater to the college students. Let There Be Bacon knows there is a bacon festival every year in Tucson, so they are thinking they might do better here. Military Moms thought the sloppy joes got too messy and want to switch it up and throw that meat on nachos.
The teams arrive in front of Tyler Florence and excited to be in Tucson. The teams will be working on marketing their food trucks. They will get $300 this week and $100 of it has to be put into marketing! They get flags for their trucks and time to get things rolling!
The teams head out and they are calling news stations for exposure and using social media and buying sign flippers for marketing! Lose Star is auctioning off an MP3 player. Beach Cruiser is having a pool party. Gourmet Graduates are recent college grads, so they are tailgating! They also go shopping for more food supplies and now time to find a spot for their trucks to start selling food!
Madres Mexican Meals are parked in a biker bar and hoping the local news can bring in customers. Middle Feast is spending too much time with prepping their food, so they are losing out on customers! Military Moms is having customers take pictures with the truck and a sign of their name and tag them and get $1 off a Fox Trot race….good marketing campaign.
Gourmet Graduates are not getting along together and bumping heads and are doing no marketing! They work it out and we see some great sales for Let There Be Bacon in Tucson. Beach Cruiser had to run out to the store and get more supplies!
TRUCK STOP COOKING CHALLENGE: They have been cooking three dishes this whole time, so he is adding a fourth dish: a sonoran hot dog! They can not sell anything until they have sonoran hot dogs for sale and can only sell them for $5! The team that sells the most hot dogs will win $500, second place gets $200 and third place gets $100. They can put their own twist on it and the hot doog has everything on it to begin with!
The teams get their ingredients and are back to selling. Some teams are struggling with selling the hot dogs and then others are selling them big time. Madres Mexican Meals are not selling any hot dogs, so they decide to not even try to sell them any more and focus on their own dishes on Great Food Truck Race 2014! They had good sales with the news station there, but it has died down now and they may have to switch spots as Day 1 comes to an end.
Day 2 arrives and Madres Mexican Meals goes back to the same place and have no customers! Why go there?
SPEED BUMP: Tyler calls and said it looks like a strong weekend for everyone and the hot dogs are getting rave reviews, but there is a big Tucson Folk Festival going on and over 20,000 people in attendance and he has blocked off a street for just them! All seven trucks on one street! Now the real competition begins!
Middle Feast has the sign spinner, so Greta takes her shirt off and tries working it with the bikini on! Meanwhile, Gourmet Graduates are walking around and checking out the other teams. Yup, all three walking around and no one selling!
SPEED BUMP #2: Tyler calls with another Speed Bump, as they will have 30 minutes to write their own food truck jingle. They will all take the stage and sing for the crowd and hope this brings in customers. No prizes, but it could bring many customers to their trucks! The teams start working on their jingles and they are all struggling.
JINGLES: The teams perform their jingles. Beach Cruiser does a chant and it sucks. Gourmet Graduates works it out. Lone Star was good and most teams did decent.
The customers are coming back to the trucks and maybe the jingles worked for some of them? Gourmet Graduates did four times as much as last week, so they close early! Why would they do this? Beach Cruiser stays and sells the remainder of their hot dogs. Some teams stayed until the end though, so will it pay off from them?
RESULTS: The teams are back in front of Tyler Florence. The teams made over $5,000 during Week 1 and with one less truck, they made $17,000 during Week 2! For the challenge, they sold 699 hot dogs! Beach Cruiser wins and gets $500. In second is Military Moms and in third was Middle Feast. Now to the totals for Week 2 on The Great Food Truck Race 2014:
- First Place with $3,685 is Beach Cruiser
- Second Place with $3,238 is Lone Star Chuck Wagon
- Third Place with $2,716 is Military Moms
- Fourth Place with $2,376 is Let There Be Bacon
- Fifth Place with $2,290 is Madres Mexican Meals
That leaves us with Middle Feast and Gourmet Graduates! The team in last place is Gourmet Graduates and they have been eliminated! They didn’t really do marketing and closed their truck early and shut down to walk around for a little bit! The remaining teams will now head to Austin, Texas!
