Great Food Truck Race 2014 Spoilers - Premiere

We are in for exciting season, as The Great Food Truck Race Season 5 kicks off tonight? What can we expect? Here is an official synopsis: “This season the route will take the teams to Santa Barbara and Venice Beach, Calif.; Tucson, Ariz.; Austin; Oklahoma City; St. Louis; Mobile, Ala.; and Tampa, Naples and Key West, Fla. Each team’s cooking — and selling — skills will be put to the test in various challenges that will uniquely differ from city to city. On the first day, each team will be provided with a vehicle for the duration of the race, but only the grand-prize winner will get to keep their truck. These rookies will soon learn that operating a food truck is a lot harder than it looks.”

Here we go…we are in Santa Barbara, which is the starting point for the race, and all eight teams are headed this way. We get to know the teams a little bit more. Who is your favorite team? I mean, who hates bacon? I might be Team Let There Be Bacon!

The teams head out and get their trucks, which were done based on ideas given by them. How awesome are these trucks? I want one! They have a box in all the trucks, but it says “Do Not Open.” What is in that box??? The truck is stocked with the basics, like silverware and plates. They are now given $200 to figure out three signature dishes they will be serving, which will be done right in Santa Barbara!

The teams head out and get their supplies for the three dishes. The Military Moms are making a grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwich….I’m in! The Middle Feast is at the store and can’t find any of the ingredients for their dishes, so they change their menu on the spot! Chatty Chicken almost forgets oil to cook their chicken! They feel they did not get enough oil, but if they run out then they will pan fry it. This challenge seems fitting for Beach Cruiser, right?

The teams are back and parking their trucks and time to bring in the people to eat their food on The Great Food Truck Race 2014! Lone Star Chuck Wagon has a big lineup for their dishes! The pan fried chicken is slowing down the process for Chatty Chicken and have customers asking for their money back!

It seems like all the food trucks are lining up along the beach, but Military Moms seem to be more into the city. They have a good story and meet another Mom on the sidewalk!

SPEED BUMP: Things have been going well, but Tyler calls them and they are backing up! They are now headed to Venice Beach, California.

Beach Cruiser is excited because this is where they are from! They are on the phones calling and texting people to help get the word out when they arrive on The Great Food Truck Race 2014!

Day 2 has arrived and the teams are getting their parking spots. Most of them teams park on one street, but Beach Cruiser had their friends save two spots for them by the beach. They take one spot and give the other to Let There Be Bacon to maybe get a favor back down the road! Chatty Chicken parks their truck and is going to to the store to get more oil! On the way, they notice they don’t have their money and have to go back to the truck!

Meanwhile, the other teams have started serving their food. Let There Be Bacon has no luck in their spot and can’t get people to come in. Now we see Chatty Chicken get to the store and they don’t have the box to the till box! They have to go back to the food truck and get her purse! They finally get the oil and in the fryer, but then can’t light the pilot light! They scrap it all and go with grilled chicken….why didn’t they do this long ago?

TRUCK STOP: Tyler calls up a couple of his buddies, who will go to all the trucks and try out the food for him! For Gourmet Grads, they are impressed and it fills them up. For Beach Cruiser, they said it is dynamite, but don’t like what it is served in. For Lone Star, they said it fell short and it was bland. For Military Moms, they said great salesmanship and passional. For Chatty Chicken, they said they are friendly and psyched to be here. For Madres Mexican Meals, they said family-owned businesses can be good based on family recipes, For Middle Feast, they liked the food and think they have potential. For Let The Be Bacon, they said it tasted good, but didn’t understand the coleslaw with the cheeseburger.

Tyler calls the teams and said they have completed their first challenge! They are going to head out and meet the guys and the winner gets $500 for their till, second place gets $200 and third place gets $100!

RESULTS: They meet the judges this week and here are the results:

  • Third Place ($100) – Gourmet Grads
  • Second Place ($200) – Beach Cruiser
  • Winner ($500) – Madres Mexican Meals

The teams are heading back out to sell for a couple more hours and the lowest-earning team will turn in their keys and be eliminated on Great Food Truck Race Season 5! Let There Be Bacon can’t get water out because of how they are parked, so they have to find a new spot and shut down shop for the time being….this is crucial!

We see Madres family come to support them. The Dad doesn’t like the son in the kitchen, but he supports them and said give it his all! The night comes to an end and time to pack up shop for the night!

RESULTS: The teams are back in front of Tyler Florence on The Great Food Truck Race Season 5. He said they all made a profit this week! Here are the results:

  • First Place – Lone Star Chuck Wagon with $1,511
  • Second Place – Beach Cruise with $1,319
  • Third Place – Madres Mexican Meals with $1,221
  • Fourth Place – Middle Feast with $764
  • Fifth Place – Military Moms with $591
  • Sixth Place – Gourmet Grads with $517
  • Seventh Place – Let There Be Bacon with $337
  • Last Place – Chatty Chicken with $277

That means Chatty Chicken has been eliminated tonight on Great Food Truck Race 2014 and you can blame it on them wasting so much time shopping for oil, which they never used! The teams find out they are now headed to Tucson, Arizona!
