Food Network Star 2014 Recap: Premiere – Who Got Eliminated?

I don’t know about you all, but I love a good reality cooking competition show and we have the return of Food Network Star 2014 tonight on Food Network and I could not be happier. We have 12 new contestants vying to be named the winner of Food Network Star Season 10 and get their own show on the Food Network. We have the return of mentors Giada De Laurentiis, Alton Broan and Bobby Flay as these contestants fight to win it all. There is so much excitement for this new season, as the 12 contestants will be put through Mentor and Star Challenges every week that will test both their cooking abilities and their on-camera skills and ultimately if they can attract an audience! If they are eliminated, their chances of winning Food Network Star Season 10 are not over! Star Salvation, a Web-exclusive competition hosted by Geoffrey Zakarian and Season 9winner Damaris Phillips, will start with two hopefuls from previous seasons. The eliminated contestants get thrown into the mix every week and one of them will ultimately win a spot back in the on-air competition!

Here we go…the contestants arrive on the lot and meet each other. Sarah made it to the final audition round during Season 8, but was cut and said she is winning it all this season! Christopher is an Executive Chef and has cooked with Emeril Lagasse and the other contestants are worried about him. Luca is a hottie, but Lenny said this isn’t America’s Next Top Model!

The contestants are all in place and the judges have arrived in their golf cart! They are on a Hollywood backlot and will be having a Hollywood-style party in their honor. Before they meet their fans, they will record a 30-second video and pitch why they should win this season! Sarah is up first and she is nervous and throws out some pageantry comment and the judges are not impressed. They said she is too rehearsed.

Chris screws up and chokes and forgets everything he wants to say. Nicole says the cliche things and gets an example made out of her by Alton! Loreal is very confident and strong and Bobby said he wants to know more about her. Kenny is fast and all over the place and missed his mark. Aryen has an interesting story and the judges like her story. Christopher is good, but Giada said he is not giving them anything unique. Donna is a little wild and Giada said they can’t hit people over the head with the healthy thing. Luca is pretty for the camera. Alton said it was perfect and Giada tells him to smile and that is his ticket. Reuben is talking a mile a minute, but Alton wants him to bring his story together into one thing. Emma uses the farm-to-table concept and Bobby said don’t use that if she thinks it will scare people away. Lenny is a babbling fool.

The contestants will be cooking the food for tonight. They will have 90 minutes to create their best “party bite” and 100 people will be tasting their food! They head into the Food Network Star Kitchen and the 90 minutes have started. Sarah is cooking mushrooms and they are not going well, so she is freaking out. Kenny is afraid of the deep fryer. Donna is so excited to be there and it is showing! Christopher thinks his dish represents him and the city he loves. Loreal loves her some bourbon and she is making it rain on her dish! The contestants are rushing around as the time runs out and time for the party to begin!

The contestants find out that Ross Mathews will be at the premiere party that night and they are all excited, but it is time to get ready for the party! They all will arrive in style on the red carpet and take the stage and present their dishes to the panel, which includes Ross. Remember when he lost all the weight and he was endorsed by Jenny Craig??? Yeah, where did that weight go? Time for each contestants to present their dishes:

CHRIS: Ross liked  his charisma and Bob Tuschman said he feels there is something there to work with. Bobby thought it was underseasoned and Giada said the execution was not done.

REUBEN: Alton said he needs to slow down. Susie Fogelson said there is a sexiness about him, but Ross said his beard is a little off. Bobby said the presentation is nice, but not in love with it.

SARAH: Giada said she is very much a pageant girl. Bob said he is looking for something genuine from her. Alton said things are either chunky or smooth and this is somewhere in between that that he finds off putting.

NICOLE: Giada said she turned it around and Susie thought she would have tips on fish. They all seemed to love her dish.

DONNA: Bob said there is a slight awkwardness to her. Ross said to turn it down a little bit. Alton didn’t like the ingredients in the dish.

LUCA: Giada said he is authentic and charismatic. Susie just wonders if he has the range and the depth. They thought his dish was delicious.

CHRISTOPHER: He chokes while on stage, but pulls it together! Alton said it is a good-balanced bite and hasn’t given up on him yet.

LENNY: He comes out with sequins on his jacket and a big ol’ belt buckle! His speech is so good and he is so comfortable up there. Ross said he definitely has a point-of-view. Bobby said he is intrigued and wants to see how it all plays out. They all think his dish is very good.

ARYEN: Bobby said that she is very practiced. Bob wants her to drop the act. Alton said the dish is bland.

LOREAL: She gets emotional on stage when talking about her grandmother, which shows her real self. I really like her. Ross said it was a little shaky, but it was so real and he fell in love with her. Bob said she cooks with finesse. Giada said she loved it.

KENNY: He is much better with his speech tonight and more calm. Ross said he owned it. Giada said the dish is not that unique. Alton said he has not tasted any food that makes him think he can cook.

EMMA: Susie said sort of boring. Ross said there was no point-of-view. Alton said it was not bad, but it does not connect and she needs to connect her food to her!

All the contestants have presented their bites and are now in front of the judges and time for the first elimination on Food Network Star 2014! They feel Loreal, Nicole and Lenny did very well on this challenge tonight. Reuben, Luca, Chris, Kenny, Aryen and Christopher were in the middle of the pack and are safe this week. That means Sarah, Donna and Emma are on the bottom and one of them will be going home tonight! Who do you think it should be?

The judges on Food Network Star Season 10 discuss the bottom three. They return in front of the judges and Emma is told she is safe. The judges want to see Sarah again next week, which means that Donna has been eliminated tonight on Food Network Stars 2014!
