Food Fighters 2014 Recap: Premiere – The Battles Begin!
| July 22, 2014 at 7:00 PM EDTI definitely love a good cooking show and I definitely love a good game show, so I am beyond excited about the premiere of Food Fighters 2014 on NBC tonight! It is combining two of my favorite things and giving us a chance to see home cooks take on some of the best professional chefs in the business with the amount of money the home cooks can win increasing as the rounds go by! We have the adorable Adam Richman hosting Food Fighters on NBC and it should be an entertaining hour of television (or at least I am hoping)! Check it out with us tonight during our Food Fighters 2014 Recap and see who won on NBC’s Food Fighters tonight!
The home cooks will be calling the shots and taking on some amazing professional chefs along the way. They get to pick the dish that is to be done, which gives them an advantage in choosing a dish that the chef may not be too good at cooking. It is a fun take on a cooking competition with money involved, so I am in!

Here we go…we will see one home cook compete each week for a chance at $100,000 and all about the strategy! Elisha Joyce, who is a single Mom from Portland. She has brought her family’s five favorite recipes to take on the professional chefs tonight on Food Fighters 2014 and she wants the money to take a trip to visit family in Guam!
Round 1 ($5,000) – Kevin Belton
DISH – She picks Egg Rolls and Dipping Sauce for this round!
COOKING – She doesn’t think Kevin can work his way around soy sauce and plum sauce. The meat is ripping through her wrappers and Adam said the oil could seep through when frying. Time runs out and they quickly finished to get their plates ready!
DINNER PARTY – These are everyday Americans that have a love for food. They liked the taste from Elisha, but thought the wrapper was too oily. They thought Kevin’s dish was too fishy.
RESULTS – In a 3-2 vote, Elisha is the winner and has won $5,000!
Round 2 ($10,000) – Jonny Giordani
DISH – She spent a year in Italy with her husband and it was difficult to find this dish here, so she picked Fish Tacos & Salsa.
COOKING – She calls them her “Date Night” fish tacos and makes them all the time. She is using halibut and he is using cod. She forgets to oil the grill, so the fish is sticking as she grills and Jonny could not find the tortillas and used egg roll wrappers instead!
DINNER PARTY – They said the fish was perfect for Elisha, but wanted a warmer and crispier shell. They thought his fish was delicious and well-cooked, but it was very spicy and it took over the taco.
RESULTS – It was a 5-0 vote, the winner is Elisha and she is up to $15,000 on Food Fighters 2014!
Round 3 ($15,000) – Michele Ragussis
DISH – Michele’s cuisine is seafood. Because of that seafood cuisine, Elisha picks Mango Tart!
COOKING – Michele has never made a mango tart before, so she is eyeing this one and hoping. She said she has pastry chefs that cook for her. Elisha is doing her thing and not worried about this one. Not gonna lie, but Elisha’s ingredients sound amazing and I want to try it! Michele’s filling is sound good, but can it make up for her lack of baking skills?
DINNER PARTY – For Elisha, they thought the crust was great, but coconut took over. For Michele, the filling was great and they liked it, but the crust was not done well.
RESULTS – In a 3-2 vote, the winner is Elisha and she is up to $30,000 now!
Round 4 ($20,000) – Marcel Vigneron
DISH – She picks Stewed Chicken and Rice, which is passed down to her from her Nana.
COOKING – This is a common dish, so Elisha is a little more worried about this dish and not feeling as confident against Marcel. He normal goes with the thigh, but using breast on this one. She loves her coconut, as she puts that in the rice too. Adam likes what he is seeing from Marcel and his rice. The chicken is not cooked fully when Elisha takes it out of the pressure cooker, so she throws it in the broiler and hoping that gets it cooked properly! She gets it out of the oven and the skin is soggy! They both have issues, but get their dishes plated!
DINNER PARTY – For Elisha, they loved the rice, but the skin on the chicken was not good and added more fat. For Marcel, they loved the chicken and it was moist, but thought it might be overwhelmed by the spice.
RESULTS – In a 4-1 vote, the winner is Marcel! That means Elisha remains at $30,000.
Final Round – Lorena Garcia
DISH – This is the final round and she can double what she has made, so Elisha can go home with $60,000. The final dish remaining is Salmon & Quinoa. Lorena said she can make this in her sleep!
COOKING – Both are feeling confident with this one, but we see Elisha make the quinoa in plain water in the pressure cooker. Lorena is making it in a pan with chicken broth and many spices! Elisha now is burning the salmon, as the sugar-coat is not cooking well and is now black! She throws some more on there, but Adam thinks they look burnt and that could affect what the dinner party thinks. Both dishes get done and they look amazing, but the salmon does look overcooked for Elisha.
DINNER PARTY – For Elisha, they loved the quinoa and, of course, the fish was too crisp. They loved the fish from Lorena, but the quinoa was lacking!
RESULTS – In a 4-1 vote, the winner is Elisha and she takes home $60,000 tonight!
