*****************************************************************************************
Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips singing his song “Home” seems like a right place to start, right? Things kick off in New York and our first person in front of the judges is Michael Buodopane. He stomps in singing a version of “We Will Rock You” and then a medley of radio stations and he is crazy. Judges say no!
A look at Mariah being a diva, but no shocker there! Tenna Torres is next and she is a huge Mariah fan and even went to Camp Mariah as a kid. Apparently it worked because she has a great voice. Four yeses from the judges and she is off to Hollywood!
A good morning for New York, as three great voices come in the room and the American Idol judges are happy and giving out those golden tickets like candy! James Bae changes that when he comes in singing Justin Bieber, but he offers to do a “collide” with Nicki! I don’t think it will happen and it is four no votes!
Next is Christina “Isabelle” who struggled with her weight in high school, but lost 50 pounds and looking good. She knocks it out of the park and is so solid and has great range. Of course, she is on her way to Hollywood.
After two bouts with cancer and the amputation of his leg, Evan Ruggiero was a dancer for 17 years and had dreams of being on Broadway, but had to change those plans. He sings two songs, but I enjoyed the second one. He has a little something about his voice that I do enjoy. Anyone else? The judges think he has something, but not yet for American Idol 2013.
A new part of American Idol Season 12 they are adding a nomination part by family or friends who might be a little too nervous to go in front of the judges. Jessica Kartalis’ mother nominated and Randy went to meet her and gave her a ticket to audition in front of the judges. She gets nervous in front of the judges and messes up the lyrics a couple times, but they feel she is close to being there, but maybe next year!
Shira Gavrielov is from Israel and sounds like she has some major experience and had a #1 song in Israel! She has a good voice, but the accent bothers me. Anyone else? The American Idol judges 2013 loved her, so she is moving on.
The last artists of the first day is Frankie Ford and he sings on the subway for money. Singing in front of the judges can be nerve wracking and that showed for Frankie and he had to restart his song, but he got it together and wowed the judges. He has a story to tell and the judges want America to hear it and he is going to Hollywood! Frankie goes to Hollywood!
Day 2 and where is the stutterer???
First up is Michael Jackson? No, it is Benjamin Gaisey who sings a love song for the beautiful ladies and I think they might be running away from him! Four no votes from the judges.
Rozanna Shindelman’s parents think she sounds great, so I guess that is good enough for get her to audition for American Idol Season 12? She is loud, but not good. The judges said she is bad and time for her to go back singing for her parents.
We got a dirty girl now, as Sarah Restuccio is an outdoors girl from New Jersey and her heart is in country. She sings a Carrie Underwood song and has good tone, but it never seemed to go anywhere for me. Anyone agree? Randy agreed and asked for another song from her. The country girl breaks out in “Superbass” by Nicki Minaj and I fell in love. So good and they send her to Hollywood, after an intense debate by the judges.
Some people get through because they are crazy and Albert Chang is one of them and he is terrible and the judges send him home, even though he doesn’t know who they are. Time for Nicki to bring out her British accent, apparently it comes out when she is nervous and she brings it out a lot!
Can you sing without being able to hear? Angela Miller lost 40% of her hearing, but she knows how to sing and Mariah said she has tone and that is what you need. They say she is one of the best of the day and is headed to Hollywood!
Brett Holm claims to be the biggest fan of American Idol, but Ryan Seacrest tests him and he does not do that great. He has auditioned for Idol seven times now, so maybe lucky seven? Nope, he fails again and maybe he should retire from auditioning!
The Turbanator takes the stage, as changes his turban with every outfit. Gurpreet Singh Sarin makes the judges laugh and comes off as someone who might not be a singer, but he can sing, but not as well as others in the competition. Keith says no, but it is a yes from the other judges and he is going to Hollywood.
The last audition in New York is Ashlee Feliciano, whose parents have fostered and adopted kids that are medically complex and bring on the tears! You need a story and a voice to make it on the show and she knocks it out of the park, so did we just see the future winner of American Idol 2013?
41 people made it through from New York, but who was your favorite?
