We may be celebrating the Fourth of July tomorrow, but it is all about the French tonight on American Baking Competition Season 1 on CBS. It looks like the bakers are going to struggles tonight, but follow along with us during our American Baking Competition 2013 Recap and see who went home on The American Baking Competition on CBS tonight with us!
After last week’s show, we are left with five amateur bakers and then tension is high as they fight to get make the finale next week. James feels he choked on the Showstopper and he needs to prove that he can do three good bakes in a row. Brian wants a guy to win Star Baker this week, but more-so himself. It is all about French pastries tonight on American Baking Competition 2013!
For the Signature Bake, they will be making Tarte Tatin, which is an upside-down tart. Judge Marcella Valladolid is concerned about Francine’s becoming more of a tart and she said she is going to redneck her way through this! Brian has decided to go with a savory Tarte Tatin while the others are all making a sweet one. He is using vinegar and it is choking Francine and she tells Paul Hollywood that she might need mouth-to-mouth! I love that woman. Elaine screws up and forgets to flip her pears and now it won’t be upside down when done!
She pulls it out of the oven and tries to fix it, but she is ruining the crust and this bake might hurt her. Francine pulls hers out and it is way too juicy from the blueberries. The bakers are taking them out of the oven and the flipping is going on and they all seem happy with their flip.
Time for the judges to taste: For Darlene, Paul wanted more butter to be richer, but the top is beautiful. For James, Marcella said it looks gorgeous and professional. They said the rum is overwhelming and not much flavor on the top, but he had the look and the bake. For Brian, they said it looks great and he has some beautiful flavors. Paul said the taste is good and well done. For Francine, the juices ruined her pastry and crust. For Elaine, Paul got a mouthful of raw dough!
For the Technical Bake on American Baking Competition 2013, they will be baking four perfect Napoleons. They have all the same ingredients, but only part of Paul’s recipe to make it with! How can they be amateur bakers and know how to make a napoleon? I have never even heard of it!!!
Dough is going in the oven and James burnt himself! Brian pretty much makes love to his pastries when they come out. Darlene doesn’t have puffy pastries, so she is not happy. James is making up his technique based on seeing his mom do it as a child. All of them are struggling and melting their cream on the pastries. The only one who likes their napoleons is Brian, but he would like his even if it looked like garbage on the street!
Time runs out and the judges are back to taste. For Darlene, they like the look on top but too warm. For Brian, they said it was light and a nice pastry. For Elaine, they said it is inconsistent and the sweetness overwhelms every bite. For James, it is raw dough and a disaster. For Francine, she had nice flavor, but it wasn’t done the best.
The rankings for American Baking Competition 2013, from worst to best: James, Elaine, Darlene, Francine and Brian, so he wins the Technical Bake and we all have to hear about it. I still want to smack him!!!
Now it is time for the Showstopper, which will be making a 80 shoe pastries with the filling of their choice. They will make them into a shoe tower and have four and a half hours. This will bring them into the finals next week or send them home, so the pressure is high!!! Elaine’s shoe buns are smaller than normal and Marcella questions that. James has very runny dough, so he doubts they will bake properly in the oven. Anyone else see him being eliminated tonight?
Yeah, they are coming out of the oven and James pretty much has cookies! He has no idea what to do from here, but he gets some help from Brian. Why is Brian helping him??? He gets the dough right for him and started with the buns and Francine is looking on intently. One week from the finale and he is helping out a competitor? Brian is actually nice???
Francine is missing her family, but she said we have no idea what this means to her. Jeff Foxworthy comes and gives her a hug and said she needs to take that emotion and cook with it to win this competition. Time is running out and the towers are starting to come together, but all the balls keep falling off. Francine made 171 balls, but she ran out of room on the tower and starts cutting off the top to fix it. James barely has any balls, but at least they are done properly?
Again, one last time for the judges to taste. For Brian, they said they like the idea of white and dark chocolate. The flavor is good, but the foil in the middle they don’t like. For Elaine, they were looking for more height. They are raw on the inside and the caramel didn’t work. For Francine, they said it tastes like burnt sugar and they like the balls bigger. For Darlene, they are all the same size and presentation is good and the flavor is delicious, but maybe a couple more minutes for the balls. For James, they are disappointed and no cream in them and they are not glued together.
The judges discuss the bakers this week on American Baking Competition on CBS and figure out who is Star Baker and who will be going home. Back in front of the bakers and the judges have made their decisions. The Star Baker this week on American Baking Competition 2013 is Brian. He has wanted it all season long and finally got it. The judges have decided two bakers will be going home tonight: James and Elaine! That means Brian, Francine and Darlene will be baking in the finale next week!
What do you think of the judges’ decisions tonight???
