Top Chef - Season 11

Last time on Top Chef 2013 New Orleansthe chefs were put to the task of butchering and cooking up a 300-pound pig! The chefs had to cook up the entire pig and everyone seemed to get their own section. It was a BBQ like no other and it all looked so good. Louis tried to mix things up and created a weird dish for the judges. He added popcorn to his dish, which did not seem to fit well with it. The judges thought the popcorn was good, but did not mix well with it and he was eliminated!

Now we have the cheftestants creating pop-up restaurants tonight on Top Chef 2013, so follow along below!

The chefs head to the kitchen and meet Padma Lakshmi, who tells them there will be no Quickfire Challenge tonight and it is all about Restaurant Wars this episode. The guest judge will be David Chang, who joins them. The teams will be Green Team (Sara, Carlos, Justin, Shirley and Nina) and Purple Team (Nick, Carrie, Travis, Brian and Stephanie).

They will be creating their dream pop-up restaurant and have 24 hours to get it in place! Each team must choose an Executive Chef and Front of the House. Danny Meyer will also be helping with the judging of this task. The teams meet and the Green Team decides on a Modern America theme. For the Purple Team, Travis says gays need to be in the front of the house, so he volunteers. They come up with a seafood-theme and are working very well together. For the Green Team, Sara volunteers to be Front of the House and Justin goes with Executive Chef. They do not have a menu yet, but they are working on the tables and settings and Carlos is not happy about it!

The teams head to their restaurants and they have everything to do, including putting a place for the kitchen! Nick will be the Executive Chef for the Purple Team. They then head out and start doing some shopping for the restaurant. While shopping for plates, the Green Team is losing it. Carlos hates they didn’t discuss the menu much and Justin has a short fuse and is not dealing with people well, which will not be good for the Executive Chef role on Top Chef 2013!

Travis, Brian and Carrie are heading out to Whole Food to get their food. Stephanie and Nick are shopping for seafood. The Green Team is going out shopping for food and they are just hoping that their dishes mesh for the Modern America theme. They can’t find molds for Sara’s dessert, which she is pissed and feels like they didn’t try hard enough!

The chefs are all together in their restaurants and working on prepping their food, as both of the menus are getting in order. Brian picked up the wrong ingredient for his dish and it will throw off the texture of his dish, so he is not happy. The prepping is done and the Green Team is working back at the house and discussing the front and back of the house and keeping everyone on the same page.

The next day arrives on Top Chef Season 11 and the chefs are working with their waitstaff and making sure everyone is on the same page and they know what they are doing. They got wrong bowls on the Green Team and Justin is angry, yet again. He cannot lead anyone when he gets so mad, unless he is going for Chef Gordon Ramsay.

The restaurants have opened on Top Chef Season 11 and the guests are arriving and the orders are coming back! The food is going out and no real issues. The judges arrive at the Purple Team and out comes the food. For the first dish, they say it is not a good consistency and it is snotty. Over on the Green Team, the VIP table has no menus and they are having issues with the tickets. Sara goes to help the VIPs and then walks away while they are still talking to her.

Back to the Purple Team, Carrie’s dish is overcooked, but they liked the flavors. Stephanie’s dish was done well. Again, the Green Team is going crazy and no order! Back to the Purple Team and Nick’s dish and they said it was a good dish and he went bold. For Tarvis’ dessert, the olive oil cake is not as moist as it should be, but the taste is very good.

Over on the Green Team, things are falling apart, but Sara is trying to keep it in order. The judges arrive and Padma talks to the VIPs and they just got served their main course and they have a reservation at the other restaurant in three minutes! The judges are just waiting around and no one is talking to them. Padma finally asks Sara what is going on, so she goes and gets the first dish and gives them to the judges and leaves! Padma calls for her to explain the dishes, but she keeps walking away. The first two dishes are a disaster, but then Shirley’s fish dish works better and they love it. Sara brings out the next dish and no explanation again! Nina’s dish is great and they said the best so far from the team! Sara is trying to work on her dessert now and the mold broke, so pretty much she is going to be serving a piece of cake now. Looks like she will be eliminated tonight, right?

Sara brings out her dish and explains it thoroughly to the judges, who are not shocked she voluntarily gave this information on her own dish unlike the others. The judges are not impressed with the Green Team, but the Purple Team nailed it with the service.

Back in the waiting room and the chefs are watching the judges discuss the teams. They said the chefs got overwhelmed with Restaurant Wars, but it is clear that one team did better than the others. Padma comes back and the judges want to see the Purple Team.

Judges’ Table on Top Chef 2013: the Purple Team is the winning restaurant tonight. The judges said that the Front of the House was probably the best ever in all seasons. Props are given to everyone, except Brian and the gel he did wrong. The winning chef tonight is Nicholas! They said he had the best dish of the day and he led the team, so he deserves to win!

Now it is time for the Green Team to go in front of the judges on Top Chef 2013 and Padma said they had the least favorite restaurant and it was a disaster. The judges call Sara out for not explaining the dishes except for her own. Justin said the tickets were not done properly, which was the breakdown. He said he didn’t train the servers. David Chang said the food on the plates was a bigger issue. Nina and Shirley had dishes that stood out on the team. They ask Sara about her dish and Sara gives some major attitude!

The judges discuss the restaurant and said that Justin had the worst dish of the night and Sara is a close second. They wonder if Sara would have trained the staff properly, would it have gone better? They feel good service or not, the food was still not good on the plates! This is going to be interesting! Who do you think is going home?

The chefs are back in front of the judges. The judges discussed and Sara has been eliminated tonight on Top Chef 2013! The other chefs are all safe! She now heads to Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen to take on Louis, who was able to take down the undefeated Janine Booth last week!
