Top Chef Duels - Season 1

Last night on Top Chef Duels Season 1, it was another domination by one of the chefs and probably not the one you would think. I am a fan of David Burke and liked him during his time on Top Chef Masters and think he is a classy guy. I think he has a ton of experience, but both of these chefs do. They have been friends since 1987 when Takashi moved in with David and remain friends today.

For the challenges, Takashi chose eggs and beat David in a 2-1 vote. Then David chose crab (and having to make it three different ways) for his challenge and Takashi won it in a 2-1 vote! He took home $20,000 before The Duel even began! For The Duel, the chefs were put to the test making dishes using unusual ingredients: sea squirt, armadillo and black sapote,

This was another close call, as the judges seem to be split between both of the chefs. however they said David’s dishes seemed to mask the unusual ingredients and not highlight them. Because of this, Takashi was the winner of The Duel and David heads to The Knockout to take on Mike Isabella for a spot in the finale as well!
