| February 14, 2019 at 7:00 PM ESTFried chicken and Muhammad Ali will be the focus of tonight’s new episode of Top Chef Kentucky 2019! With only six chefs remaining on Top Chef Season 16, the pressure is starting to get to these cheftestants more and more! Watch with us tonight during our Top Chef Kentucky 2019 Live Recap and see who went home on Top Chef Season 16 tonight!
Last week on Top Chef 2019, the Quickfire Challenge had them working as a team to break into a box using a code to retrieve some bouillon cubes, which would be the only seasoning they could create a dish using! Eddie won the challenge and actually won immunity for the week, as the Elimination Challenge was a 3-on-3 challenge at Rupp Arena, home of the Kentucky Wildcats! The teams had to create dishes for a stadium full of fans and the team with the most points after three rounds won. The big drama of the night was that both Adrienne and Sara decided to make chicken and waffles, but Sara used a boxed waffle mix and it got a lot of slack, even from the crowd. She was not happy and thought she was going home because of it, but instead, the judges eliminated her and her wet ribs. She headed off to compete in Last Chance Kitchen.
Who is eliminated tonight on Top Chef 2019? Find out in our Live Recap that follows!

Here we go…
Quickfire Challenge
The chefs meet Padma Lakshmi and she is joined by Chef Art Smith, as they are going to be making some fried chicken today! I mean, it is Kentucky Fried Chicken! For this challenge, the chefs will create their own blend of seasoning using only spices they can identify while blindfolded. The winning chef gets $5,000 tonight on Top Chef Kentucky 2019!
During the introduction, Art Smith said you need salt to make fried chicken. However, in the tasting, Justin didn’t get salt right! Sara got the most with 12 spices and then Kelsey had 11 spices. It seems like all of the chefs are wrong on cooking the chicken and it’s raw, so they have to work fast at the end to make it work.
Results
After tasting all of the dishes, the least favorite dishes came from Justin, Kelsey and Eric. That means the best dishes came from Sara, Eddie and Adrienne. However, only one of them can have the best fried chicken and that is Sara, which is her first individual win.
Elimination Challenge
For this challenge, they will celebrate the life and career of Muhammad Ali through their food. Each dish will be based on one of Ali’s fights and it will be part of a six course meal being served at a charity gala at the Muhammad Ali Museum. They are each making their own dish, but it must be a progressive menu. The guest judge for this challenge will be Laila Ali.
The chefs all get their fight and read over the details on that fight and then come together to work on their menu for Top Chef Kentucky 2019. Sara wants to switch it up and not get the Kentucky dish, but no luck, as they drew numbers and she gets stuck with it again and she is not happy. They figure out the menu and then head out to do some shopping for their dishes.
Tasting
The chefs are all working together to plate the dishes. The judges and guests all arrive and it is time for tasting the food on Top Chef Season 16:
- Sara – Laila said she loved how the food worked with the fight. Tom Colicchio said it was a good start.
- Justin – Laila said it’s creamy, but light. Padma said the soup is so luscious, but it eats really light. Tom said Justin heard Maine and went seafood, but the place isn’t even near the ocean.
- Eddie – Laila said the chicken turned out really tender. Tom said the dish is not exciting.
- Eric – Laila said it has an interesting texture. Tom said it was a great dish.
- Adrienne – Laila loved the salad on top and it had so much flavor. Tom questions the use of hot sauce.
- Kelsey – Bread pudding was a favorite dish of Muhammad. They didn’t like the candy corn and it was too crunchy.
Judges’ Table
Tom said they are getting close to the end and it’s good to see them all put out great dishes. Someone will go home for a great dish. The top dishes tonight come from Sara and Eric. They loved how Eric brought a different type of dish to them and Tom said Sara started out the meal with such a bang, but the winning dish tonight came from Eric!
For the other four chefs, Padma said they have to nitpick on this one. They had to look hard to find something to eliminate one of them! For Adrienne, it was how she used hot sauce. They wanted Justin to cook the seafood a little bit more. Eddie had a good dish, but it missed a connect. Kelsey’s dish was kind of one-note and Tom said it could have used something.
