Here we go…some smack talk from the coaches backstage, but lets get to these battles!

Team Pharrell: Elyjuh Rene vs. Maiya Sykes
Song: “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys
He said his team is magical. They walk in and see Alicia Keys and Elyjuh is about to lose it! Pharrell said they are both soul singers and wants to see their similarities and differences. Alicia said that Maiya is magnificent and has miles more to give. During rehearsals, it seems like Elyjuh is struggling and Maiya is so strong, but it only matters when they take the stage! This battle gave me goosebumps! They both were so good. Maiya showed her experience and was so poised on that stage. Elyjuh was good, but did struggle with the high notes.

Winner: Elyjuh Rene and no steal for Maiya, so she is eliminated!

Team Adam: Chris Jamison vs. Jonathan Wyndham
Song: “Young Girls” by Bruno Mars
How about walking in and seeing Stevie Nicks sitting there??? Yeah, that would be insane and the guys were loving it and very nervous to sing in front of her. This is a battle of four-chair turnarounds! During rehearsals, Chris seems to be more shy and holding back and Jonathan is loud and boisterous. Adam said they complement each other well and both have their own challenges to work on. To be honest, they have very similar voices and it is wild! They both sound really good on The Voice USA 2014, but Jonathan is more vocal. I think Chris shows off  some range in there and hitting some funky notes and I like him more.

Winner: Chris Jamison and no steals for Jonathan, so he is headed home!

Team Gwen: Jean Kelley vs. Sugar Joans
Song: “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child
Team Gwen is keeping it in the family with her mentor this season, as she is using her husband Gavin Rossdale. She said they are both power singers and this song is perfect for them, but it is very hard to sing at the same time. Gwen thinks this is going to be one of those bam performances. She thinks the song calls for more stage presence and sass. This was a weird one, as they both have good voice. However, Jean had the stage presence and Sugar has a better voice. I loved her voice and the rasp to it, but she was awkward with her dance moves. Jean had a weaker voice, but was much more comfortable up there.

Winner: Sugar Joans, but both Adam and Pharrell want to steal Jean Kelley away! She picks to join Team Pharrell on The Voice USA 2014!

Team Blake: Craig Wayne Boyd vs. James David Carter
Song: “Wave On Wave” by Pat Green
This is the battle of the three-name artists! He brings in Little Big Town to help him this season, as he said they are perfect with harmonies and he sucks at them! Beyond that, he tells them to shut up! They both are such strong singers with strong voices and I am excited to hear this one play out. They both have such amazing country voices and great stage presence, as they both come out with their guitars. Very strong voices, but something about Craig’s voice makes me like him more.

Winner: James David Carter and Gwen wanted Craig, so she steals him away and he joins Team Gwen!!!

Team Gwen: Amanda Lee Peers vs. Taylor John Williams
Song: “Jolene” by Dolly Parton
She said they are both alternative type artists and thinks this is the perfect song for them. The White Stripes and Miley Cyrus have covered it and think this could be a good one. They wanted to do an a capella start to the song and I was not a fan of it. To me, Amanda owned this one and has a stronger voice. Not sure, but this song was not a good fit for Taylor’s voice.

Winner: Taylor David Carter and no steals for Amanda, so she is eliminated!

Team Pharrell: Griffin vs. Luke Wade
Song: “Maybe I’m Amazed” by Paul McCartney
Pharrell said they both have interesting and unique tones, so that is why he paired them together. He thought this song would show their vulnerable side. Griffin was struggling with the song during rehearsals and wanted to put his own twist on the song. I was not a fan of this arrangement and how they each took their own part and didn’t have much harmonies, but I loved Luke and then Griffin hit those high notes and I was impressed. This is going to be a tough one!

Winner: Luke Wade, but Blake and Gwen want Griffin and hit their steal button! Griffin picks Team Blake!
