The Voice - Season 5

We saw some amazing battles last week on The Voice Season 5, one of which included Kat Robichaud and R. Anthony on Team CeeLo. I am a fan of Kat and her personality and how strong she is on stage. She has this stage presence that makes you want to root for her and makes you have fun. She is a perfect fit for Team CeeLo, which is why he picked her as the winner of the battle on The Voice 2013. I was surprised when no one stole R. Anthony, especially with how the coaches were talking him up.

We get eight more battles tonight and another eight tomorrow night and then the Knockout Rounds kicks off next week. Follow along with the battles tonight in our recap starting soon!

WARNING: THE VOICE USA 2013 SPOILERS AHEAD!

The following post contains videos from tonight’s episode of The Voice 2013 Season 5 Battle Rounds. Don’t want to see them yet or see who went home on The Voice USA Season 5 tonight, then don’t look ahead!!!

****************************************************************

Here we go…we start the night with Team Christina and Team CeeLo with one steal left and Team Adam has both his steals left, but Blake used both his steals last week!

Team Christina: Josh Logan vs. Michael Lynch
Song: “Harder To Breathe” by Maroon 5
We got the soul versus the Latin in this battle. I am intrigued to see how Christina puts them together. The lyrics are tough and it has a lot of words, which Michel is struggling with at the first rehearsal. During the second rehearsal, the guys did not seem to know the lyrics and Christina was trying to work them and be the audience, but they weren’t working her and she was getting angry. It will be tough for them, since they will be singing the song in front of the guy who made this song famous. I love Josh’s voice on this song and he has the sound of Adam Levine at times, but I think Michael is the better singer. They get much love from the coaches, but it seems that Josh is getting more of the love. It is Christina’s decision though and she picks Josh Logan! No steals for Michael Lynch.

Team CeeLo: George Horga, Jr. vs. Juhi
Song: “Best I Ever Had” by Gavin DeGraw
George only got CeeLo to turn around on The Voice USA 2013 and now he gets to prove him right for hitting. CeeLo picked this song because it is young and fresh and that is what he wants them to be. It is has soul in it and he wants to see that. Juhi starts strong and they tell George to find moments in the song to make it his own. George is very easy on the eyes, so that will definitely win over some votes. I am loving Juhi’s voice though and she is so young and so strong. It is different and we all know CeeLo likes that! CeeLo has kind words for both of them and he wants to support someone who wants this and doesn’t have a Plan B, which Juhi has with her education. CeeLo picks George, but Juhi is not gone as Team Adam steals her away!

Team Blake: Austin Jenckes vs. Brian Pounds
Song: “To Love Somebody” by The Bee Gees
Brian gave up baseball in college to pursue his dream of singing. Blake said he paired them together because they have an edge to them, but there is something vulnerable about them. He picked this song because it is not country, but he it can cross genres and he wants to see who can stand out with it. Brian wanted to step away from playing the guitar and just sing. Cher thinks Brian has it in him, but needs to let it loose. This was a great battle and they both sounded so good. I think Austin has that more seasoned and polished voice, so I’d go with him. The coaches seem to think that Austin connected more to the song, but gave them both props. Blake said Austin left his heart on the stage, but thinks they are dead-even on this performance. The winner is Austin Jenckes. No steals for Brian Pounds.

Team Adam: James Irwin vs. Matt Cermanski
Song: “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic
This is a battle of the returnees on The Voice Season 5, as both these singers have tried out before but did not make it. Here they are now on Team Adam and trying to make it to the Knockout Rounds. Well, they have Ryan Tedder sitting right in front of them, so how much pressure is that? Adam wants James to bare his soul and he makes Matt put down the guitar and sing without it and it is way better, He got away from his security blanket and it may work. I am a fan of Matt and would like to see that face a while longer in the competition, even though James is nice on the eyes too. I just think Matt did better this round. Blake said they both have the same strengths and weaknesses with their vocals. The winner of this battle is James Irwin. No steals for Matt Cermanski (sad face).

Team Christina: Destinee Quinn vs. Lina Gaudenzi
Song: “Not Ready To Make Nice” by The Dixie Chicks
This is a battle of the pretty girls on The Voice USA 2013 for Team Christina. She chose this song for them because she wants them to dig in and kick a little ass tonight. Destinee is a country artist, so this could be more fitting for her? She said it is so important to connect lyrically to this song. Lina was being too nice and she wanted her to get mad as hell, but Lina seems to be overthinking things. Christina does a little singing to show these girls how to do it! They both have very good voices, but Destinee seemed to own this performance and was so connected to the song. Christina said it is a win-win situation, but really only one of them can go through on her team! Christina said she got into this business because it is about making people be moved by her performance, so she picks Desitnee Quinn. Adam doesn’t want Lina to go home and he steals her away for Team Adam!

Team Adam: James Wolpert vs. Will Champlin
Song: “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons
James left college and is working at an Apple store while he pursues his music career. Will comes from a musical family with his dad being a member of Chicago. Adam paired them together to get them out of their comfort zones and do something completely different. He said they are both cut from the same cloth and having them both move forward would be redundant, so he needs to pick one. I think this is going to be a close one and they both have very similar vocals. James has something about him that makes him interesting, even though he looks like a big dork. Will killed this song and it seems very fitting for him. Adam is torn, but he picks James Wolpert as the winner. Christina thought Will was consistent and steady, so she hits that steal button and he joins Team Christina!
