The View co-host Sherri Shepherd broke down in huge sobs after she was booted off in the Dancing With the Stars 2012 elimination results on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, Shepherd said the tears she shed were “tears of joy, and tears of disappointment [at being eliminated] because I love the entire process.”

After she was eliminated on Dancing With the Stars 2012 on Tuesday, Sherri Shepherd gave an emotional speech about having the courage to face your fears.

“That thing that scares you the most, that makes you say, ‘I don’t know if I can do it, I’m scared’? Run towards it because it’s so amazing on the other side,” Sherri said with tears streaming down her face.

Back on The View on Wednesday, Shepherd said her crying on camera was “not a temper tantrum, [but] really tears of joy. I wanted to do this for so long, and to be taken off the ride so soon, it really was devastating.”

Shepherd wiped away tears again as the studio audience gave her a standing ovation and moderator Whoopi Goldberg said, “You know, we are not happy … she was robbed.”

Not only was Shepherd very upset at her sudden Dancing With the Stars 2012 elimination, she said her 6-year-old son Jeffrey is also “pretty devastated” at the unexpected turn of events. “He loved being there,” Shepherd said of her son, who she brought to the set each week. “He also doesn’t quite understand that they won’t be going back.”

Even though it was sad to be eliminated, Shepherd said on The View she had learned some great lessons from her time on Dancing With the Stars 2012. “I learned I have stage fright, and have to get past it,” she said. “And I was scared every week, and I learned to dance scared.”

Shepherd’s pro dance partner Val Chmerkovskiy joined her on The View and gushed over his DWTS 2012 co-star.   “Every moment was incredible for me,” he said. “She’s a huge star and I’m just a dancer so I really appreciate how kind she was to me. And she’s exactly how she seems – that’s how she is in real life.”
