David Cook and Orianthi Rock on AI Results Show

| March 17, 2010 at 10:17 PM EDT

Finally I have something good to say about this season of American Idol and it is not the contestants. Season 7 winner David Cook opened the show with a rock rendition of The Rolling Stone’s Jumpin Jack Flash.  He reminded me of how talented a true American Idol is suppose to be.

Why can’t we have a rocker on this season?  Casey James is the closest and thank God for him because I don’t know if I could keep watching without that eye candy to look forward too.  🙂

Orianthi stole the show singing her hit single According to You.  This chick rocks and she can jam with that electric guitar.

For those who don’t know, Orianthi was hand picked by Michael Jackson to be his lead guitarist for his comeback concert series This Is It and performed with Steve Vai when she was only 14 years old.  She was named in the top 12 of the greatest female electric guitarists.  I’d say we will be seeing her around for a long time.

Lacey Brown was the first contestant of the Top 12 of American Idol Season 9 to get eliminated and this was no shocker as she has delivered one off key performance after another since reaching the Top 24.  Tim Urban, probably the worst AI finalist of all time, is still in the competition.

The Regular Apprentice Is Coming Back

| March 17, 2010 at 6:23 PM EDT

My wishes have been granted and we will finally get a new season of The Apprentice.  The seventh season is coming on due to the recession and those who are out of work with no prospects to find a job or those persons who are incredibly unhappy in their current employment can apply.

NBC released a statement today saying

NBC and Donald Trump want to put America back to work – and after a long wait – the boardroom will be open again for candidates who have been affected by the decline in the job market, as the network will pick up a new version of the popular original alternative series “The Apprentice” with Trump returning to preside.

Trump will give the opportunity of their careers to 14 new candidates ranging in age – all of whom have been hit hard by the current economic downturn. These will include talented and bright prospects who have lost their jobs with no hope in sight, people who are currently holding down jobs they don’t like just to make ends meet and recent college graduates who currently have few if any prospects.

Sounds to me like anyone can apply so if you feel you can hack it out in the boardroom with Donald Trump you can attend one of the open calls (has not been announced yet) or email castingnbcapprentice@gmail.com and explain why you should be the next apprentice and how the recession has affected you.  Also include a recent photo, name, location and job history.

Don’t blow it Crystal!

| March 17, 2010 at 10:19 AM EDT

I know Crystal Bowersox is one of America’s favorites on American Idol..I know she’s at the head of the pack with this seasons singers, but if she’s not careful, this could end up being the highlight of her career instead of it being her big break that launched her into stardom!

I was shocked to hear her say last night that her mind just wasn’t there, how she had, “Other things” on her mind! Biggest show on TV and she’s having a hard time getting up for a performance? Come on Crystal, don’t let this opportunity pass you by without giving it your all!

The problem I see with Crystal, is she seems like more of a seasoned vet than an up and coming star..I think she’s too comfortable and I think we’ve seen all she has to offer..I doubt she puts down the guitar and becomes a singer(Same thing with Lee, seems a little Willie Nelsonish to me!) I doubt she tries to change her look at all, and I really think that kind of attitude is going to be her downfall..she needs to not only step it up, but step out of her comfort zone and really push herself..she’s good, but she’s not AMAZING type good, maybe if this were the woodstock era, but not now! Call me crazy, call me a hater, but Crystal is walking a fine line..
I hate to just pick on her, but I think she’s got real star potential, just not there quite yet, even though I’m sure she’d disagree..
I wasn’t a big fan of any of the songs last night..I’m not a big Stones fan, but they are a ROCK band, yet not so much ROCK huh! Its pretty bad when nobody can rock it playing the Stones..geez..

It just stuns me how the exciting up tempo songs that get crowds in arenas everywhere, up moving around, have somehow got lost in the shuffle..last night I felt like I was watching a musical of “The Rolling Stones”..
This is what I ask when I’m watching, even if they do a great job on their song, would I pay money to watch them perform for an hour on stage? So far? No Way!

Paula Abdul Returning to Reality TV? – Update

| March 16, 2010 at 11:14 AM EDT

Update: TV Guide says Paula will not be doing Star Search after all. Did Simon swoop in and lock her down for his X-Factor show next year?

Paula Abdul may be returning as a judge to reality television but not in the role you may think.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Abdul is finalizing a deal with ABC to star in the remake of the show Star Search.  The formal Idol judge will most likely be used in a combination of both host and judge.

ABC reportedly offered Abdul a 1 million dollar deal to appear on DWTS but this obviously never came about as the singer/dancer will not appear on this season of the show.

Star Search will make its debut in the summer which still leaves Abdul free to join Simon Cowell in the fall of 2011 on his new series The X Factor.  Simon has said repeatedly that he would be working with Abdul again in some capacity.

This is the third time Star Search has tried to make a go of it so if it fails this time around, I doubt we will see it again.  Is this a wise career move for Paula or will the show crash and burn?
