MasterChef Junior 2015 Spoilers - Week 2 Recap

Last week on MasterChef Junior Season 3, we saw a new season begin and 19 new kids made their way into the kitchen. Things kicked off with a Mystery Box Challenge and the junior home cooks had to create restaurant quality dishes from the ingredients given. From there, the judges couldn’t decide a winner and all three kids won and got to pick out the pasta dish the other home cooks would be making for the Elimination Test. They chose pappardelle, which I have never heard of before! The kids did good, but the judges decided to send home five junior home cooks: Philly, Jianna, Quincy, AJ and Parker.

Here we go…the 14 kids enter the kitchen tonight. Jimmy, Ryan Kate and Andrew had the three best dishes from the last challenge, so they are taking part in the special challenge tonight!

SPECIAL CHALLENGE: The three kids will be competing to see who can make the meringue for 12 lemon pies! They have to cover all 12 and the first one to get done gets to fling one of those pies in the face of the judge! Andrew gets Gordon, Jimmy gets Graham and Ryan Kate gets Joe!

RESULTS: Jimmy gets his 12 pies done first and it looks like Graham is getting a pie in his face! He does it real good, but then there are 11 kids and 11 pies left on Jimmy’s station, so bring on the food fight! The kids all enjoy putting the pie in their faces and the judges are good sports about it!

TEAM CHALLENGE: They will have to make a dish using sausage that they have made in the machines provided! They will be paired up to make the sausage and Jimmy gets to pick the pairings. The pairs will be:

  • Jimmy and Kyler
  • Riley and Ayla
  • Andrew and Cory
  • Jack and Nathan
  • Jenna and Mia
  • Ryan Kate and Kayla
  • Alexis and Micah

They have one hour to make their dish and will have an assortment of meats in the pantry to pick from to make their sausage. The teams get started and Cory is all over the place and Andrew is having none of it, so maybe Jimmy’s plan is working out? They finally come up with a plan. Jimmy and Kyler are using kangaroo for their sausage! Ayla and Riley have their sausage in a pan, but the gas is not working on their burner and the water is not boiling! They have ten minutes to cook the sausage! There are issues, but everyone gets their dish plated and time for tasting!

  • Jenna & Mia – Joe said that is amazing and this is really, really good and it has a German summer festival feel to it. Gordon said that is perfection and it would be a big hit at his pub in Las Vegas.
  • Micah & Alexis – Graham said great effort on the sausage, but needs more seasoning and something to make it more moist and held together. Gordon said the flavors together could have had a great flavor, but it is really bland though.
  • Jimmy & Kyler – Joe said great dish and loves the biscuit and shows great technique. Gordon said it is visually a great dish, but it does not taste as good as it looks and the sausage is dry.
  • Ayla & Riley – Gordon said the sausage is absolutely delicious and seasoning great, but he wants more of it and the portion is so small.
  • Jack & Nathan – Graham said the sausage needs more fat and less cook, but everything else is spot on.
  • Ryan Kate & Kayla – Joe said he likes the plating a lot and it reminds me of home and one of the most tender of sausages served tonight.
  • Andrew & Cory – Gordon said the sausage is dry, spinach is bland, but the sauce is good. When they are working together, he expects the dishes to be better!

RESULTS: The judges discuss all of the dishes and one of the teams will be leaving the competition tonight! Who do you think it will be? Jenna & Mia had the best dish of the night. The judges then ask to see Micah & Alexis and Andrew & Cory. I knew they couldn’t send Andrew home yet, as they send Micah and Alexis home tonight!
