Food Network Star 2014 Recap: Week 9 – Who Got Eliminated?

It is time for the contestants on Food Network Star 2014 to leave Las Vegas behind and move the Next Food Network Star 2014 competition to New York City. We get a new challenge, as they will head to The Rachael Ray Show and try to help some of her viewers with their problems. This has been an interesting season, as seen last week on Next Food Network Star 2014. The contestants took on a team challenge and had to come up with a one-of-a-kind experience for the judges, including guest judge Penn Jillette. While we all thought that Team Emma would kill it and win easily, they were the clear losers of the challenge and the judges sent home Emma for leading such a disaster! I thought she would be in the finale and a potential winner this season, so I was shocked!

Here we go…the contestants are in NYC and Nicole knows she has to show her personality more and Lenny knows he needs to show the judges he can work in a more intimate setting and not rely on a big crowd. The contestants arrive at Food Network headquarters and are in awe.

MENTOR CHALLENGE – The contestants meet all three judges tonight and they find out they are headed down to Chelsea Market to find a summer staple and report about it back to the studios live! The contestants draw their locations and they head out to find that staple. Loreal gets the meat market, so she is excited. Lenny has the yogurt place and he is struggling big time.

Time for the camera time and Luca is up first and he does a good job. The judges said he is charming. Sarah is up next and has an earpiece issue and is live and not talking! She finally starts and then screws up the name of the fruit. She didn’t taste the fruit, but chomps into the melon right on TV and it is pretty funny and the judges liked that. Nicole was very natural and Bobby Flay said she sounded like an expert. Lenny is rambling and not looking at the camera to start. He is way off and even misses the cutoff from the judges! The judges felt like he gave them nothing! Loreal struggles and is in her element and the judges said they wanted more from her and it should have been a slam dunk!

RESULTS: The contestants are back in front of the judges and get some feedback and the winner of the challenge is Nicole! She will get an advantage in the next challenge.

STAR CHALLENGE: They will have to tackle some real-life dinner dilemmas from viewers of The Rachael Ray Show! They will create a dish for the family and show it off in a live, 3:30 minute segment. Nicole gets to choose her family and assign the families to everyone. She assigns the families and they have 30 minutes to work on their dishes and will present them the next day!

Sarah is making an easy taco soup. She thinks Nicole’s dish is very spicy, which the kids won’t like in the family. Luca is trying to hide veggies into his dish and he has done this in the past. I don’t know if you have heard, but Loreal is the “Butcher Babe.” She keeps calling herself that, but then has no clue how to answer meat questions! Sarah thinks Loreal’s dish is too involved for the quick dish she is supposed to be making.

PRESENTATIONS: The contestants are at the show and here we go! Luca is up first and Bobby loves his idea and Giada is just smiles the whole time and thinks he is so charming. He did a very good job, but didn’t explain what the sauce was. The kids were amazed by his presentation, but they would not try it. The judges thought the kids might have tried it had they not seen him make it.

Nicole is comfortable and working very good, but the kid spit it out and it is too spicy for him! Sarah is next and the kids looked bored. She is just going through the motions and the judges don’t think she is having fun with it. The kids do like the dish though. Loreal is having fun, but her dish is supposed to be quick, easy and cheap. Giada said she doesn’t think the family will be doing this. They like the dish, but it doesn’t fit for the challenge. Lenny is last and he doesn’t say the dish he is making and starts nervous. He is engaging the family and the crowd and is entertaining. He rips his pants a little into it, but he powers through and the judges love his interaction with the family.

RESULTS: The chefs are back in front of the judges on Food Network Star 2014. Luca and Lenny had the best of the night, so they are safe tonight and it is the women in the bottom three! Who do you think is going home tonight on Next Food Network Star 2014? Despite making a dish not for the kids, her camera skills are getting better and Nicole is safe tonight. Sarah is moving forward, which means that Loreal has been eliminated tonight!
