This should be fun, so watch it with us during our American Idol 2014 Top 8 Performances Spoilers Live recap below!

American Idol 2014 Spoilers - Top 8 Results

Last week on American Idol Season 13, it was a week of the Top 8 performing their original audition song again, as they brought it back to where it all began and sang the song that initially won the American Idol judges 2014 over! We saw some pretty good performances and some shined, like we thought they would. However, America voted and Sam Woolf was eliminated during the results show, but the judges did not think he was ready to go home yet and used their save on him! Was it the right choice?

Here we go…we see that David Cook will be a guest mentor tonight! He won Season 7 and now he is back to help the Top 8 with this journey and give them help! Now time for the performances!

Jena Irene – She sings “I Love Rock N Roll” by Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. She is going to start it out on the piano and totally changing the song up and making it slow. David was leery at first, but then started digging it. Song selection is such a huge part of this show and she nailed it with this one. She changed the song up and made it her own at the beginning and I loved it. So good and she showed why she is one of the frontrunners of Season 13 now!

Dexter Roberts – He sings “Keep Your Hands To Yourself” by Georgia Satellites. Dexter said he sings this song a lot in bars and he is going to play the guitar and have fun with it. David said he knows the words to this song and he can’t hear the words coming out of Dexter’s mouth. Dexter is always pretty boring to me, but I was a fan of this one. He had fun and I enjoyed it. Good song and fun to watch!

Our first duet of the night comes from Alex Preston and Sam Woolf, who will be singing “The Girl Is Mine” by Michael Jackson. They take the stage with their guitars in hand and they did a good job. I think Sam looked rough last week during his duet with Malaya Watson, but this was a good pairing and they have similar styles on this one and props to them both!

Malaya Watson – She sings “Through The Fire” by Chaka Khan. David said, if anything, he told her to be more focused. He wants her to find some spots to amp up and not let the audience be so shocked when the chorus hits. It is cool seeing David work with them because he is giving some great advice. The judges and David all seem to love her, but I wasn’t feeling her on this one. She can hit some great notes, but it seemed over-the-top for me.

The next duet of the night on American Idol 2014 is Caleb Johnson and Jena Irene, who sing “It’s Only Love” by Bryan Adams and Tina Turner. This is another good combination and they sound good together. The producers are getting it right tonight, but it is easy to do with these two singers!

Jessica Meuse – She sings “Call Me” by Blondie. David said this is a lofty song choice. She thinks it has strong rock undertones and she can take the 80’s sound out of it and make it more rock. She sings for him and he thinks it is spot-on, but he got no enjoyment out of it from her and she needs to show America she is having fun. I would agree with this performance. She has a great voice and nails the performance, but there is a wall up and she needs to break that down and have fun!

Sam Woolf – He sings “Time After Time” by Cyndi Lauper. He said he needs to ramp it up tonight since the judges on American Idol Season 13 used the save on him last week. David wants to see him get out of his own and be himself on that stage because he is so confident. To be honest, we did see two good performances from Sam tonight. I was worried about this song choice, but he handles it well and he seemed to try to lose those nerves.

Our next duet comes from C.J. Harris and Malaya Watson, who sing “I Knew You Were Waiting” by Aretha Franklin & Georga Michael. This is a great song for Malaya and C.J. is there, but I am just so ready for him to go home this week! She sang with Sam last week and he ended up on the bottom, so maybe it will happen for C.J. this week?

Alex Preston – He sings “Every Breath You Take” by The Police. During rehearsal, David thought he sounded nervous and was moving super fast. He thinks he is focusing on getting everything right and he needs to get it now. Alex said he needs to find the intimate moments and make people believe them. To be honest, I was a little nervous heading into this performance. The rehearsals made me worried, but of course, Alex nails it and made this song his own and does it so well. Another great performance from him!

The final duet of the night is Jessica Meuse and Dexter Roberts, who sing “Islands In The Stream” by Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers. You would think this performance was made for Dexter, but Jessica stole it for me. She looked and sounded great and she seems to be more comfortable with these duets than her solo performances on American Idol 2014!

C.J. Harris – He sings “Free Fallin'” by Tom Petty. David said he heard renditions of this song too many times than he wants to remember, but C.J.’s version got him excited about the song again. David helps him with the arrangement and now C.J. is excited about it. He does bring the emotion of this song out tonight and he does sound good. He takes it slow and shows the emotions of the lyrics and I liked it.

Caleb Johnson – He sings “Faithfully” by Journey. He said this is one of his favorite songs in the history. David said he wants everyone at home to be like that guy is mine forever. Caleb wants to make some old ladies cry on this one. This started out as a very mellow song for Caleb, but he kicked it in at the end and hit some huge notes. Great performance, but I like how Alex makes the song his own and Caleb just sang a great rendition of this song.
