American Idol 2014 Spoilers - Top 7 Performances

Last week on American Idol Season 13, the Top 8 were back on that stage again to perform for 80’s Week! We saw some very good performances and the duets were even better matched. There were a couple bad performances and that showed with the results show on Thursday night. It is crazy, but it seems like the actually results and bottom singers are based on performances and not popularity (or lack thereof) and that is a good thing, but sad to see Malaya Watson go home!

We have everyone in place and time to get the fun and performances started for tonight. Randy Jackson meets with the Top 7 and they all discuss the songs they would pick for each other, but no sabotage. Now the performances begin!

Caleb Johnson – He sings “Family Tree” by Kings of Leon. This song was picked by Alex Preston and Caleb thought it would be the best one for him. This one starts a little rough for me and it is hard to understand what he is even singing, but then he kicks it in and is his normal Caleb self. He rocks it out and I am still a fan.

Jessica Meuse – She sings “Gunpowder and Lead” by Miranda Lambert. Sam picked this song for Jessica and thinks this is a badass song and she is a badass too. He may think she is a badass, but I am not getting that from her. Again, she has great vocals and sings the song well, but I want that emotion from her. The lyrics are for one pissed off female and she still has that wall up in my opinion!

The first duet of tonight comes from Alex Preston and Sam Woolf, who sang together last week and I liked it. They will be singing “Let Her Go” by Passenger. They normally sit down and play guitars together, so this is what they will do tonight on American Idol 2014. I think they do work well together and Alex brings out the better side of Sam, but maybe having him there calms his nerves some? Good performance from both!

C.J. Harris – He sings “Gravity” by John Mayer. Caleb picked this song for C.J. and he chooses it because he is a huge John Mayer fan. He is able to show the emotion of the song and does a good job with it, but he just doesn’t have that strong voice like some of the others.

Dexter Roberts – He sings “Muckalee Creek Water” by Luke Bryan. C.J. picked this song for Dexter and he loves it because it reminds him of home. This is another singer that I just can’t get behind. He is a good country singer and he sings well, but I just don’t see an American Idol when he sings. No star quality.

The next duet comes from Jena Irene and Caleb Johnson again, so they are back at it again. They sing “Gimme Shelter” by The Rolling Stones and I just love this duo. They do both have their own style, but they are both great singers and make it work on this one.

Alex Preston – He sings “A Team” by Ed Sheeran. Dexter picked this song for Alex and Ed Sheeran happens to be one of his biggest inspirations. This is the style that he does so well and his vocals are just great. He sounds great, but those weird foot moves need to stop or he needs to sit down while performing!

Sam Woolf – He sings “Sail Away” by David Gray. Jessica picked this song for Sam and she is hoping this helps him with his connection, especially with the ladies! I loved Sam during his audition and then he kept slipping and slipping in my opinion. Then he almost went home and then he seemed to bring it back on and I have liked him and his performances the past couple weeks, including this one.

The last collaboration of the night comes from Jessica Meuse, Dexter Roberts and C.J. Harris, who all hail from Alabama. They sing “Compass” by Lady Antebellum and seem to have had fun working together all week. To be honest, I thought Dexter and his voice stood out on this one, which I have never seen before!

Jena Irene – She sings “Creep” by Radiohead. Caleb picked this song for her. She said she loves the lyrics and the song, so she selected his choice. This was an excellent song choice for her and she gets that pimp spot of being the last one to perform tonight on American Idol 2014. She is good and this was excellent!
