It is hard to believe that the Top 13 on American Idol 2014 will take the stage tonight and perform live for our votes and the American Idol judges 2014 (Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr.) will just sit back and listen and give their critiques and leave it up to us to decide who nailed it and who didn’t on American Idol Season 13! The Top 13 take the stage tonight to perform and it will be interesting to see how they all handle the pressure of the big stage. Follow along with our American Idol 2014 Top 13 Performances Spoilers Live Recap and see the videos of the performances with us!

American Idol 2014 Spoilers - Top 13

With all the changes that have been happening on Season 13, one of those changes include the themes for each week of the season. Tonight it is called “This Is Me” and we can only assume that they will be singing songs that show us, the voters, who they are as artists. I love the fresh take on things and we could be hearing songs currently on the radio today, which is not like American Idol at all!

Here we go…we take a look back at the journey we have gone through so far on American Idol 2014 and finally finding out the Top 13 on American Idol Season 13. Out comes Ryan Seacrest and then the Top 13! Randy Jackson is sitting with them tonight, as he serves as a mentor this season. And here come the judges! We then look at the ways to vote, which includes searching “American Idol” or “idol” on Google and voting available there now! Voting is open now, unlike other seasons, and the Google voting is open until 10am EST tomorrow.

Dexter Roberts – He sings “Aw Naw” by Chris Young. He said this song is fun and he wants to show America he is fun! One thing is for sure with Dexter: he is pure country. He has a great country voice, but is it strong enough? There is nothing that makes him stand out to me and nothing special about him to make me want to vote for him.

Malaya Watson – She sings “Runaway Baby” by Bruno Mars. This girl has so much energy and I just love it. She is always smiling and loving this process, so I am happy for it. She is not clear with her vocals, which Randy Jackson said she needs to annunciate tonight. She did not do that and this was a bad song choice for my girl. She had fun, but it wasn’t a great vocal.

Kristen O’Connor – She sings “Beautiful Disaster” by Kelly Clarkson. I am still shocked the judges picked Kristen with the final wild card, so let’s see what she can do tonight. Randy says she has a beautiful voice, but needs to sell that emotion to the audience and judges. Yup, I still don’t see what the judges saw in her. She is nothing special and this was mediocre at best. It never went anywhere and I was bored.

Ben Briley – He sings “Folsom Prison Blues” by Johnny Cash. He starts every gig with this song and it sets the mood for his shows. American Idol 2014 is a gig for him, so he wants to set the mood for this gig with his normal song. This was a good song choice and probably safe, but that is what you need to do on Week 1. He is country and I liked it. He seemed to be screaming at points and a little too excited, but overall good.

C.J. Harris – He sings “Radio” by Darius Rucker. Randy said this is right in his sweet spot and tonight he is going to try. I loved this song choice and C.J. was up there and having fun. He got the vocals out and it was good to see him smiling and enjoying himself up there on American Idol Season 13!

MK Nobilette – She sings “Satisfaction” by Allen Stone. Randy said she needs to sell it to the audience. This is a different look for her and she needs to sell it. This is very different from what she has sang so far this season, but I like the sound of the song and the sound of her voice on it. It was more fun and it was very catchy.

Majesty Rose – She sings “Tight Rope” by Janelle Monae. Majesty is another one of my favorites this season. There were some parts where she got quiet and you couldn’t hear her on the mic, but this was fun and a great vocal. She can sing and entertain and such a great song choice!

Jena Irene – She sings “The Scientist” by Coldplay. This is the first song she learned to play at the piano at 9 years old. Randy said they slowed the song down a bit then the original record and she needs to get her timing right with the band tonight. I do enjoy her voice and she has a different tone to it. She almost has a Katy Perry feel to her voice. Don’t you think? She does a very good job on this one and I think she may be the dark horse of the competition.

Alex Preston – He sings “A Beautiful Mess” by Jason Mraz. Randy said that he is really talented, but he needs to open his eyes and sell that to the judges tonight on American Idol 2014. I just love this guy and think he has a great voice and style. I think he does such a good job, but Harry said it was very inward and it did not do well for him. Keith said it did the opposite for him and it drew him in and Jennifer agrees.

Jessica Meuse – She sings “The Crow and The Butterfly” by Shinedown. Randy said she needs to commit to the meaning of the song and commit to that and translate it to the public. To be honest, I have had my ups and downs with Jessica this season. I like her one week and then the next week she annoys me. I really liked this song choice and I liked her tonight!

Jessica Meuse, Top 13 ~ American Idol 2014 by HumanSlinky

Emily Piriz – She sings “Glitter In The Air” by Pink. Randy said this is a big song and everyone knows it, but if she can put her own twist on it then she is going to rock it. Her eyes staring into the camera is just awkward to me. Anyone else? I love Pink, so this is a tough one to hear…no one can be Pink. Emily does have a solid voice and I am impressed with some of the notes she hits.

Emily Priz, Top 13 ~ American Idol 2014 by HumanSlinky

Sam Woolf – He sings “Unwell” by Matchbox 20. Randy gives the same advice as every other singer and he needs to sell that emotion of the song to the audience. Two things: Sam has a great voice and sings this song great and sounded great, but he has no emotion and it is just him going through the lyrics and getting the performance done. No connection and that is not good.

Sam Woolf, Top 13 ~ American Idol 2014 by HumanSlinky

Caleb Johnson – He sings “Pressure and Time” by Rival Sons. This is not a popular song, but Caleb said this is the kind of record he would want to make some day, so that is why he is singing it. Caleb is a pure rocker and it shows in his voice. He is so solid and could be a favorite of the season. They saved the best for last?
