With the help of Smokey Robinson tonight on American Idol 2013, it looks like these Top 8 will try to impress not only the American Idol judges 2013, but also America for their votes! Find out how they do during our American Idol 2013 Top 8 Performances Live Recap!

American Idol 2013 Top 8

My question of the night: will the guys do enough tonight during their performances to remain safe or do the girls dominate again and we will have to say goodbye to another guy tomorrow night during the live elimination results on American Idol 2013? I don’t think the guys hold a candle to these ladies on American Idol Season 12, so not likely will one of them go home tomorrow night. I’m hoping they take these Motown songs tonight and put their twist on them and make tonight fun, otherwise I will have the coffee brewing to make it through these performances!

*****************************************************************************************

Here we go folks…it is all about Detroit tonight on Idol and we start with Smokey Robinson talking about the city…time waster, folks? The American Idol judges 2013 come out and then the Top 8 on American Idol Season 12 come out and now time for the performances!

Candice Glover – She sings “I Heard It Through The Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye. I think Candice was the perfect choice to start tonight out with. She knocks it out of the park with this performance. She is such a strong singer and she put a little jazz twist to this classic and I love it. I thought I would be bored tonight, but this was a great start for me! Do you agree?

Janelle Arthur and Kree Harrison – there will be some duets and trios tonight and here is out first one, as the country ladies sing “Like A Prayer” by Madonna. I think this was a terrible choice for the girls. Why a Madonna song for country singers? They both have good voices and I feel this song did nothing to showcase those voices on American Idol 2013. These performances should help them gain fans and this did not help!

Lazaro Arbos – He sings “For Once In My Life” by Stevie Wonder. Jimmy Iovine and Smokey think this is a great choice for Lazaro, but I’ll be the judge of that! I enjoyed this performance from Lazaro. It was nothing amazing, but he seemed to have some confidence back and he was working that stage. He kicked it in at the very end and I thought he did an excellent job. I liked him tonight and will rise in the standings!

Janelle Arthur – She is singing alone this time and sings “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” by The Supremes. She is bringing out the guitar for this performance. I like Janelle tonight because she sang this song and did it with a whole new rendition. She completely made it her own and ends it on a huge note. Huge props to her and Mariah Carey loved it.

Devin Velez – He sings “Tracks Of My Tears” by Smokey Robinson. I am torn on this performance from Devin. He had some decent moments, but I was expecting more from him this week and this could be the nail in the coffin for him. He has been in the bottom both weeks and now he does this? I think we might be saying goodbye to him tomorrow night!

Amber Holcomb, Candice Glover and Angie Miller – The first trio of the night comes from the girls and they sing “I’m Gonna Make You Love Me” by The Supremes. I think this performance just showed the vulnerability of Amber. She is strong as a solo artist, but this made her look weaker next to Angie and Candice. It was good, but they shined and Amber was just not as good to me. Anyone agree?

Burnell Taylor – He sings “My Cherie Amour” by Stevie Wonder. So, both of the performances tonight (Devin and Burnell) who I thought could shine big time with Motown let me down. I have not been a fan of Burnell all season on American Idol 2013 Season 12 and this did not win me over. It was the original version sang today, but who wants to hear that in 2013? I am over Burnell!

Angie Miller – She sings “Shop Around” by The Miracles featuring Smokey Robinson. The key for her this week, according to Smokey and Jimmy, is to show America that she is having fun. I think she did that in the trio performance, but it seems fake in this performance. She is clearly trying to show America she can have fun. Just relax and have fun or get your butt behind the piano where everyone loves seeing you, right?

Amber Holcomb – She sings “Lately” by Stevie Wonder. Well, I think she may have not shined when she performed with Candice and Angie, but Amber came back during this performance. It was a powerful performance and she knocked it out of the park. Mariah said it was a tour de force, which no one understood and she said she loved it. Nicki said she needs to wear pink lipstick to win more votes. Really Nicki?

Burnell, Devin and Lazaro – They compete the trios tonight and sing “I Can’t Help Myself” by The Four Tops. It was a good performance, but I just can not get behind these guys this season on Idol. Nicki rips them apart and said they felt like they were back in Hollywood Week and kicked them off the stage! The guys then kind of had an awkward moment with Ryan Seacrest and Burnell mentions something about getting thrown under the bus and Nicki cuts him off and then Devin talks about saving two people. Who knows?

Kree Harrison – She sings “Don’t Play That Song” by Aretha Franklin. Smokey is blown away by Kree at rehearsals and is going to call Aretha to watch the show. I think it is a battle between Kree and Candice to win this season. Don’t you agree? Candice starts the show and Kree ends it. It was a great performance and I will say it again, but I hear so much Carrie Underwood in her voice and we all know Carrie has done great things since being on Idol!
